Wow, Mary.  You're walking your little tail off!  I'm also planning to
continue wearing my peddy after the challenge.  It will be interesting to
see how many steps I accumulate while wandering through houses for sale.
I'm down another lb. and I think it's mostly due to the extra exercise I'm
getting from the challenge.

I'm thinking of starting to keep track of my steps each day, can you
recommend a decent pedometer?  Are the free McDonald ones any good?

Thanks!

I think that any of the Sportline ones are good for measuring steps.  I
have the Sportline 320 which has two different stride length settings
(so you could have one for walking and one for running or hiking).  I
don't know anything about the McDs one but I'm sure that it's fine too.

I have the Sportline Talking Calorie pedometer 343.  It's nice that it
announces at every 1,000 steps taken.  It doesn't have different settings
for walking and running but it's very easy to set stride length and weight.
The clip that holds it to the waistline also seems stronger than old one I
had.  That one was always falling off even when walking normally.  I've had
this one fall off occasionally but it's been when I bump it against
something when getting out of a chair or the car.

I just put a new battery in an old Sportline 355... and it is adding
about 3 steps for every 5 steps I take about the house! I haven't set
the stride length thing yet, but supposedly, according to the manual I
downloaded, that's only necessary when you are using the distance
tally feature.

Remains to be seen how it will do out on a walk, but it's definitely
not accurate for keeping count of steps while I'm in the house.

The pulse meter part seems fine though.

Has anyone used one made by Oregon Scientific? I've seen these on eBay
and they look nice. But I hate to buy another if they are all about as
inaccurate as my Sportline.

Or maybe I just need a new Sportline. This one has not been abused
though, I just stopped using it when the battery wore out and sat it
in a drawer for years.

I had my sportline in my purse for two weeks once and it never worked again.
It was pretty accurate with the step count though. I'm still looking for a
replacement pedometer, though I've been very much into biking, golf, yoga,
and lifting this week (and a little bit of running) and my activity level is
higher than it's been in a while so I'm pretty content with that.

This has been pretty fun and I am hoping that the list makes this sort
of thing a regular feature -- you know, keeps you on track to check
yourself every now and then.  I wouldn't want to wear the pedometer all
of the time because I'm developing a "dent" in my side from it!

I really like my Digiwalker -- I haven't tried any other kind although the other day
people were saying that the McD one was OK -- it certainly couldn't hurt to use it
for a start!

I'm interested too. The McDonald's one seems to count extra steps
around the house... I think it is more consistent when I am out
walking.

I just got a new battery for an old Sportline 355 that's been sitting
around unused for a couple years, but it is adding a LOT of extra
steps when worn about the house.

I'd love to know which brands are more accurate.

FYI ... I have two peds ... one is McD's and one is a Manpo mk-365 (got it
from bhg or lhj mags, I forgot which one).  I reset them both and put them
on while doing a few chores around the house.  The McD's one reads: 182
steps and the mk-365 reads: 150.  I honestly don't know how many steps I did
walk, although neither have the ability to account for stride or running.

Wow! Now the McD one says 342 steps and the other one says 648 steps.
That's quite a discrepancy.

I'm going to try wearing both my Sportline and my McD's tonight for my
walk.

However, the fact that my Sportline registered 61 steps when I reset
it before getting into my car and checked it before I got out was not
inspiring <G>.

The McD's usually runs around 2990 or so for my usual circuit, so
we'll see what happens tonight. It may actually be more acurate than
the Sportline.

Although I think part of the trouble with the Sportline is either it
isn't working right because it sat around unused for so long, or that
my middle flab is giving it extra *jiggle* factor.

Didn't really participate in the "challege" aspect of it today. I knew I'd have
yoga in the evening, and I didn't have time to take a lunch break walk and make
it to the class on time.

Today (Wednesday), I'm really tired, so I don't know how motivated I'll be.

Goal: (None for Tuesday)
Actual: 4836
