Went to a public swim!

Tonight, for the first time in I-couldn't-begin-to-guess-when, I went to a swim
at a  public pool. After checking the pool schedule yesterday, I told my
daughter that we'd go *today* -- mostly because I knew if I told her, I
couldn't let her down by backing out of it. And it was something, on some
level, I very much wanted to do.

We went for all of an hour. I spent about 20 minutes doing maybe four of the
slowest, saddest-looking laps you've ever seen; 10 minutes playing around in
the shallow water with The Kid; and 30 minutes in the deep end with her,
jumping off the diving board and swimming back to the ladder.

Frankly, even with that little amount of activity, my arms (especially my
shoulders) hurt, and I'm kinda wondering how I'll feel in the morning. But I
also had fun and am pleased and proud that I did the thing. Maybe we'll try it
again another Wednesday night (next Wednesday night?), even! :)

And tomorrow, I go to look at a used bike to maybe buy.

Good for you, Beeswing!  Now you just need to promise The Kid you'll
take her next week :-).

We have concert tickets for this upcoming Wednesday, but we will be going again
soon, one way or another. (I'll have to take another look at the schedule.) It
was a lot of fun.

Thanks so much for the encouragement, Chris!

Good for you, beeswing!  I'm sure your daughter really enjoyed it.

Hope you buy that bike.  Biking is lots of fun and a really good activity
for you and the daughter.  My granddaughter (12) and I have been doing a
"Bike for the Health of It" ride every Saturday morning this summer.  Most
rides are 12-15 miles and it's been a lot of fun.

Thanks, Mary! I had fun. I'm sure me and The Kid will go again soon.

If you do more lap swimming, you may be surprised how quickly you'll
improve.

I don't have access right now, but when I used to... first time of the
year I'd get in and swim would be very sad... but then I could quickly
work up to a quarter mile, then eventually to a half mile.

At any rate, good for you!

Yes, I can imagine. I had to keep reminding myself that the women zipping
effortlessly back and forth across the pool had put in a lot more practice.

A half mile? Wow, that's great! I managed four roundtrips before giving up on
laps (I did keep swimming, though, just not lap swimming). And I rested along
the way...I couldn't believe how winded swimming laps made me.

Thanks!
