Mack - 08 Jul 2004 12:26 GMT Hi i am a 20 year old, very active,i do half hour cardio everyday, good shape. For the past year,i've been having trouble sleeping because the pulse in my neck is strong. If i just barely touch my neck with my finger anywhere,i can feel the pulse like its trying to jump out. When i lie down to sleep,it vibrates throughout my whole body, and it makes it impossible to sleep. The only way i can sleep is if i stay awake for several days them finally pass out.I've seen more than 50 doctors within the past year, and every single one of them did tests for everything you can imagine, bloodtests, chest x-rays,bloodpressure,etc..... and everything came back perfect. If i touch my chest,i do not feel it pounding,it's normal like any person. It's just my neck.If i go up stairs, the pounding becomes harder,BUT my heart rate is perfectly normal, and if i touch my chest,it's not pounding either.I am also having alot of muscle twitches. But the muscle twitches are not such a big deal, they don't really bother me and it causes no pain.it's just the pulse in the neck. Also when i sleep, most of the times its in my back(well the problem is i cant really tell if its also my back,it might be only my neck and its vibrating all the way through).During the day i feel normal, like if im sitting down or playing sports,or doing excercise.I mean when i do my cardio,i increase my heart rate to like 180 but i dont have the pounding feeling, this is what i find weird. And finally i don't have any types of pains anywhere. Please i am begging for someone to help me,it's literally making my life miserable,i dont get enough sleep so im always so tired, and i cannot o anything during the day bcuz sometimes im sleeping, and stay up through the night.I would appreciate all suggestions.

Wow...one doctor per week? You must have great insurance.
Have any of the doctors suggested anxiety? How much caffeine do you have per day?

Had the same thing and ignored it back in the early 80s and had a bad overactive thyroid problem in 84 as a result. That may not be the answer for you but it is so easy to find out with a blood test looking for signs of an overactive thyroid. Note they actually have to send you FOR that sort of blood test for it to be found. In other words, any other blood test you may have had wouldn't find it unless it was asked for.
Herman Family - 08 Jul 2004 23:30 GMT I agree with the possibility of a thyroid problem. Also check your blood pressure while standing, sitting, and laying down. I'm wondering if they baro receptors aren't doing their jobs right. Thyroid problems would explain a lot.

That is a different doctor every week. You have medical insurance that will pay for 50 + different doctor's office visits and every one of these physicians repeated multiple expensive lab tests in a one year period?
Have you seen a psychiatrist?
