Stopped in today for another weigh-in and I'm glad I did!

Hi all --

I was so upset Monday with my weight of 160.25 at the nutritionist that I thought I
would try weighing again later this week when I felt more "unsalted" :-) -- so I
stopped in this morning after my workout. I was glad that the doctor weighed me
instead of his receptionist who was off today, because I got to see his reaction.
Instead of weighing Monday's 160.25, I was 154.75. He was blown away, and we both
cheered.

In my excitement, I pushed his chest (like Elaine from Seinfeld) and said "I *told*
you it was water! Monday you were asking me what my triggers were and where I was
getting into trouble and I was saying I really haven't -- now you see I was telling
the truth! I have been doing well!" He was very excited and needless to say, so was
I!

Since I only change my signature after an official visit, I'm going to keep the 160
there (because otherwise I drive myself nuts over the numbers) -- but next month I am
sincerely hoping that the middle number will not be 160! Just wanted to update you
all who have shown so much support.

Thanks! It sure feels good knowing that the situation was very temporary.

I'm glad for you, Mary...and I never doubted that for a minute.

Best wishes,

Cool beans Mary!  That salt is a nasty little SOB isn't it? :)  Keep up the
great work!

Thanks, Jenn, I appreciate it! I never cease to be amazed at the amount of
water I can retain -- what felt really great was proving that I was actually
making the necessary efforts all along (despite small slips on the food plan
during one of four weeks). It felt awful thinking that my doctor (whom I
revere!) thought I was just making excuses or avoiding the truth about what
I was eating. Well that skeptical look was sure replaced today by amazement
and joy. :-)

Does the effect somehow show up on a bodyfat scale?

For example, weight goes up, bodyfat % goes down, that means water
gain. Or, weight goes up, bodyfat goes up, that means fat gain?

Would be an interesting experiment. Myself, I do not retain water
because I do not eat salty food, otherwise, I would be interested to
track that.

I can totally understand that!!  When I had a really big water weight gain
last fall I was sure that no one would believe that I hadn't really strayed
all that far from my plan - of course 20 lbs in 48 hrs would be quite a
stray :)

I finally found some relief for my water retention problems because I found
a doctor who decided that it was something worth treating...

even in my worst days I doubt I could handle 70000 extra calories in 2 days

This is great!  I can relate to the water gains.  My first indication is
swollen hands.  I refuse to step on the scale when I know I'm retaining
water as I don't want to see those few extra pounds even if they are nothing
but water.

You know you're right, because that day the ring I was wearing was really cutting
into my hand as I was taking it on and off. The water pounds are still fluctuating a
little -- a few days ago I was 150.5 on my scale, back to 153.5 today -- it is
interesting to watch the daily changes as long as I don't get thrown off track by
them.
