Starting today I'm adding garbonzo beans to my dinner mix.  One can of
beans has only 400 calories, has a low GI index, and is loaded with
fiber. My new mix: 27 oz of spinach + one can of beans (salt-free)+
8oz tomato paste+2 cans of herring+ 4 tablespoons of olive oil+ spices
(garlic powder, italian seasoning).  Makes 3 400 calorie servings.

I'm not sure I would like your combination but I use these beans to make
hummus frequently.  A couple tablespoons of the hummus on a Tortilla Factory
tortilla with spring greens, cucumbers and chopped tomatoes makes a great
lunch.

I love hummus!  Unfortunately, DH does not so I don't make my own very
often (because I love it too much, if you know what I mean!)

Same here, I love it but don't make my own often.  The Athenos brand is
quite good and comes in different varieties.  It's great on the tortillas
and also good spread on tomato slices.

I like to take chickpeas and make a salad with chopped cherry tomatoes,
kalmata olives, red onion, garlic, salmon or tuna, and a little balsamic
vinegar and olive oil, black pepper and rosemary.  Serve it on a bed of
fresh spinach.  Totally yummy :)

This sounds great!  I'll try it.

It does sound good; on the other hand, I think I'd rather serve it on
lettuce, which I like, not spinach, which I don't, much.

I like chick-peas in a vegetable cous-cous - no good for those of you on
low-carb, although you can probably do a low-carb vegetable stew.  Great
for low-fat, though.

Chick peas are fabulous- and if any of you have some time and like to cook,
I highly recommend this recipe for falafels (hope the link works)

http://vegetarian.allrecipes.com/AZ/SnsFlflndCcmbrSc.asp

I subbed in FF and sugar free yogurt for the plain and instead of deep
frying them I just baked them for 25 minutes in the oven. Low fat (I think
LOL) and they are absolutely DELICIOUS- but there's a fair amount of prep to
them. The key is to bake them, not to deep fry :)

I even made a batch without the bread crumbs, and although they weren't
quite the same, they were still very, very good. I've made just the cucumber
sauce for other things too; it's superb.

I love chickpeas. I eat them frequently. Atleast 6 servings a week. I
eat a serving of chickpeas / half apple / can of sardines for a snack
very often.
