Finally made a serious step towards getting some useful exercise. I bought a
1 year membership to Bally's on eBay. Sure, I'm going to be stuck going to
only one location, but considering that there's a brand new one half a mile
from my work, I don't think that'll be a problem.

I was considering bidding on a full membership, but then there's the $100
transfer fee, plus the monthly dues, which are well over $20 a month unless
you're willing to shell out bigger bucks. With the one year, I don't have to
deal with any of that.

Now I just have to see how much it's going to cost me to get a good workout
program from a trainer. I just need one to get me started since most of the
machines are computer controlled now.

OY! This is gonna hurt!

Congrats Smokey,

Congrats on making the move to a healthy life style.  If you keep it up you
may enjoy exercise after a while.  I enjoy going to the gym myself.

Take care,

Paul

At Gold's the membership comes with a session with a trainer to help
you learn how to use the machines and put together a routine for you.
I assume that Bally's would do the same thing, they don't want
customers hurting themselves.

Personal trainers are expensive. I use one. At my gym a 50 minute
session is a little over 50 bucks if you buy them 20 at a time. I
don't know if the cost varies by area, but other gyms around me charge
more for personal trainers.

At my gym -- in Barbara's area -- the cost is $75/hour -- more for
some of the senior trainers.  It's definitely a splurge, but one
that's important to me.

I see my trainer 3 times a week, so I buy in "bulk". I don't know what
the single session rate is.

What gym do you belong to Chris?

We don't have bulk pricing per se.  The trainers only sell packages,
not individual sessions.  There's no discount for buying more.

I belong to Life Time Fitness (www.lifetimefitness.com) which has two
gyms in the area, one in Centreville and the other in Fairfax.  I
really love it!

Sadly, Bally seems to have a monopoly in this area, even owning the ones
that don't carry the name. In fact, I don't remember even SEEING a Gold's
since the last time I was in Texas.

I hope so. A couple of those treadmills had more keys than a Chinese
typewriter. ;-]

A price of about $150 for X number of sessions (I think it was 3) was
mentioned. Guess I can get some definate numbers once I redeem that
membership cert. Hope they don't take too long to mail it.

We shall see. In the meantime, I went to Target and picked some workout duds
(I love being able to buy at these kind of places rather than the fat
store,) a pair of sneaks, fresh batteries for the stereo and a padlock for
the lockers.

I'm gettin' stoked.

Thanks, and to Janice too. I remember back when I was doing the
5-miles-a-day-at-the-mall thing, I had this terrific rush after I finished,
caught my breath and finally stopped sweating. I'm looking forward to
feeling that rush again.

One thing I've got to figure out is how the make the semi-private showers a
little more private. Maybe a beach towel and a couple of spring clamps?
