I plan to do a personal pedometer challenge next week (mon-fri). Please
feel free to join me! I thought that I'd give everyone a heads up so
that they can get their pedometers out and be ready to walk on Monday
morning.

Shoot, I don't know if I'd be ready for this yet -- I haven't posted about it, but I
twisted my ankle pretty badly by stepping into an unseen hole in my neighbor's yard
on July 10 -- and of course it's the "bad ankle" (one that had me out of commission
for an entire year the last time it got hurt) -- so I took a week off all exercise. I
am back to the gym, where my trainers are fine-tuning my workout so that it doesn't
stress my ankle, but I have been avoiding long walks and instead have been riding my
new bike which I will soon post about. But maybe I can set a lower goal for myself of
5,000 steps a day instead of 10,000 and see how I do with that. Good luck and
congrats on starting a new challenge -- I know you can do it!

Oh no! I hope that you feel better!
What I was thinking is that I'd like to do this for the last work week
of each month. I think that I will do this personally and if folks seem
to be interested, I will continue to post when I am ready. For me, that
will be often enough for the "extra" to become more habitiual and I can
kind of go from there. Well, at least that's my plan :-)

Thanks -- just being smart about it the first 72 hours (doing the RICE thing -- rest,
ice, compression, elevation) has helped it get better, in addition to the extended
rest from walking.

I think that sounds like a great plan and you can be sure I will join you when ready!

Sorry about the ankle!
I'm in for the pedometer challenge, as long as I can use my "free"
McDonalds one. I tried if last week for a few days and I found that
just being aware of taking extra steps was a 'step' in the right direction.

Ouch! Be sure to let your ankle heal before pushing the walking too
much, or it will just take longer to get better.
And congrats on the new bike!

Count me in. I haven't done this before, is there a set goal or minimum
number of steps?

You set your own goal. Last time it varied quite a bit by person. I am
going for 10,000 steps per day + my regular workouts. I think that I
normally do closer to 7,500 or 8,000 steps per day so this will be a
little more than normal.

Great idea but I'm not sure this week will be a good week for me to
join in. But yesterday (Sunday) I did a long country walk with DH
and clocked up 35,500 paces so I'd like to record that here anyway:)

Awesome! That pretty much puts my daily goal to shame, doesn't it ;-)
Oh well, I did ride 42 miles on Sat (not real happy with the avg speed
of 16.5) and 17 on Sun (pretty happy with the avg speed of 17.5
though!). I hope that counts for something <VBG>.
Saturday's ride was interesting. On Friday night DH and I went to a
concert -- 3 Doors Down with Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd. The bands
were all good. DH was disappointed that Puddle of Mudd's lead singer
had a sore throat but I just thought to myself, "He's been on tour for
too long." It wasn't anything that would keep me from seeing the band
again. Anyway, as I said, the bands were all good. The crowd was the
most falling down drunk group of people that I have seen since really
rowdy frat parties in college. I don't mean the ordinary frat parties,
I mean the really rowdy ones. The real issue for me, though, was that I
think DH and I were about the only non smokers there. Even though it
was an outdoor venue, I had some serious smoke filled lungs issues.
That did seem to affect my ride on Saturday. I just felt like I could
not get enough air sometimes.
P.S. I've got the new American Hi Fi on now -- The Art of Losing -- and
I'm really enjoying the CD.
