I have never done a 'challenge' here before.  Most of the time it's because
it's requires weighing and I won't weigh myself until the end of August.
Anyway .. I'm wondering if anyone is interested in doing a water challenge.  I
REALLY need to drink more water.  Today I have had 1 8 oz glass :(  Yesterday,
no water at all.
Is there any interest?
THanks

I'd actually be interested because I'm trying to get back into the 1 gal/day
habit.

I usually drink 4 glasses of water just while I'm reading my newsgroups!

well, you lose. 1 gallon a day seems like nothing for me. I drink an average of
5 gallons a day.

tIf this is true, then you are at serious risk of water poisoning.   One
ought to drink 1.5 litres of water per day, more when exercising or if
it's very hot, but more than about 3 litres a day (I think a litre is 2
American pints; it's 1.75 Imperial ones) can overload your kidneys and
lead to water poisoning, or water intoxication as it is also called.

I would have to say I guess I am at risk then. On average I drink
around 2 to 3 gallons of water daily. That does not include fluids
comming from my 3 servings of milk daily and fruits, veggies and the
like. I sweat alot though. I walk/run everyday along with some sort of
strength training every 3rd day. I also work in a kitchen with hot
ovens running all day too. So I am sweating tons of this out.I too
find it amazing for a her to polish off 5 gals of water daily.

I do not believe it, she is probably not measuring it properly.

Not sure about the exact numbers, but yes, one could drink too much
water.

I suspect you're mistaking quarts for gallons, or else you spend the
whole day in the bathroom.

I'm in... got the house to myself for 2 weeks and 2 1/2 cases of bottled
water (24 bottles/case) along with it.

I don't know where you guys have gotten this information. Water intoxication
involves the loss of electrolytes. This is most likely to occur during
long-distance walking or activities that involve sweating. Even so, 5 gallons
of water per day is ok if you consume enough sodium and potassium, which are
most likely to be lost. And 5 gallons a day is not difficult at all. I just
consumed half a gallon while reading all your replies.

I'm in. I had just started tracking water in Fitday--I
set a goal of 120 ounces. I have a 24 ounce bottle on
my desk that I fill four times during the day, and I
try to drink a couple more glasses at home in the
evening.

I find that I feel much better when I drink more
water--less sluggish in *all* ways. And I get extra
exercise from jumping up and running to the potty.

Think of it as adding steps for the pedometer challenge...

Yes, I need to do this too! -- my daily goal is three liters, which I haven't been
hitting lately.

I'm in as well (am I late?) because I have noticed I am taking in less
than I was when I was really focused on my WOE.

What else are you drinking?  Water is non-caloric, so good advice for
dieting, and some people mistake thirst for hunger.  Staying properly
hydrated is a good thing.

But there's nothing magical about drinking plain water.  There is no
"pure water" valve out the side of your stomach.  Once you swallow
it, it's mixed with digestive juices and anything else you ate,
and extracted out about last in the digestive process.  The claim
that plain water is better because it "doesn't have to be processed"
is utter nonsense.

I usually drink 12-15 glasses of water a day, so I'll let you catch up. : )
