At least I'm honest!  I'm going for an extra 4,000 steps today (day off from
work!) and continuing the challenge through the weekend even while out of
town visiting rather sedentary folks.

Yesterday I had some concerns as well.  I usually have lunch at my desk
and then walk for 20 minutes.  Yesterday, I had a lunch meeting so I
knew no walking would be going on.  I parked in a distant area and
walked in an extra five blocks or so.  I had to get the car for the
lunch meeting so back five blocks.  Then I parked there after the lunch
meeting, etc.  Then, when I was driving home, we had a very heavy late
afternoon thunderstorm (I was thankful that I was not on my bike!) so no
walking after work either...  Anyway, I made it to 10k but just
*barely.*  The challenge definitely got me a few extra thousand steps
yesterday.

P.S.  I'm thinking of doing this challenge again the beginning of September.

I just got stuck at my desk again, as you already know :P and then had plans
last night that precluded doing any walking.  I'm off today and about to
leave to take a 6 mi walk and then go shopping.  Tomorrow we've already
found a place about halfway to where we're going to stop and take an hour
hike so I'll make up for yesterday.

I'll be happy to do the challenge whenever.  My legs are really appreciating
the break!

My Goal is also 10K, and yesterday I happened to glance at it at 8 pm
and the reading was just under 3K.  Holy mackeral, I continue to be
shocked by how little I move.  I had a bill to deliver downtown so I got
my husband to go with me and the dog on a walk downtown to deliver it
and brought my total up to 3900 steps for the day.  (It was a
particularly busy day at work where I worked into the evening.)

I think wearing a pedometer gives me an awareness, sort of a biofeedback
device, that reminds me to park farther and take more unnecessary steps.
 I've struggled with this for a long time - I have a fat lady's
efficiency of movement - and even put it into my New Year's Resolutions
to move more, including always using the bathroom that is farthest away,
etc.  Wearing the pedometer really reenforces that.

Yes, that is certainly true for me.  I am also very fortunate that I
work on a campus and I work with people in other buildings so I can make
an excuse to walk over there (as opposed to picking up the phone).  I am
hoping that doing this challenges every 4-6 weeks will help me to move
this into the front of my mind so that it becomes more of a habit than a
"I'd better park in Lot X or I won't get the 10k that I need for the
challenge" kind of thing.

Thank you all so much for your help with this.

That's why I like it and why I'm glad Mary got this thing started last
month.  It reminded me how easy it is to fall back into bad habits, though I
still always park as far from the stores as possible.

I hadn't thought about the bathroom thing, but then again I tend to wait
until the last possible second (teacher's bladder issues).

Great job! I did an hour at the gym and 7.25 miles on the bike -- didn't
have a lot of energy yesterday!
