What does your doctor say?

I was so excited that I didn't have to have surgery that I didn't ask him. I
will when I go back Friday.
In the mean time ???????

Interesting question.  My first thought is that you'll want to take a
glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement since it's so important in
healthy joints, but I don't really know if it's for the bones themselves.

I'd say you want to eat a high quality diet where every morsal you eat
goes towards fueling your body.  I'd also say you're going to have to
really cut BACK on how much you eat because of your very sedentary
situation.  So every morsal you eat counts more than ever.

Spend some time at www.fitday.com planning out some days that aim for
your macronutrient ratio: I go for 45/30/25 carbs/protein/fats myself.
You'll need to plan ahead because you won't find it easy to run out to
the grocery store.  I think the simple step of spending a few minutes
planning to fuel your body will save you from tons of excess calories.

Good luck, and sorry to hear about your foot!

Glucosamine helps preserve and (slowly) grow joint cartilage, not the
bone.

You can't even believe how aware I am of this. I  have been walking over 2
miles a day for many months now and am about 25 pounds from goal. This
timing sucks.

Ugh, I truly feel for you -- injuries can be so disheartening when they screw up the
momentum of your health plan. Hang in there and remember that it *will* get better in
time, and the habits you adopt now can get you through. I agree with Dally to make
your food plan very clean and healthy with a minimum of any junky kind of foods --
those can be bad for the mind as well as the body (i.e. foggy mind, sluggy feeling).
I hope you recover soon!

Well, maybe it's the time to switch to musculation ;) Abdo crunches and arms
training should be compatible with a broken foot...

already doubled my previous amount of  upper body weight stuff. :)

My gym has these arm bike things that people with lower body injuries
or handicaps often use.  I tried it once; it can be quite
energy-consuming but I didn't find it very interesting or enjoyable.

How about swimming?  Can you manage that with the broken foot?
