Well I finally went for my weigh in yesterday, as I thought I was up
2.6kg  5 3/4 lbs :-( this in just 6 weeks. SO I am  back to journaling
and weaning myself off the points down to a weigh loss level. Todays
goal 23 points so far 22.5. Not bad for 3 meals and 2 snacks. ( B:
Muesli with peach banana and skim milk, Sn: peach and a milky coffee,
L: polenta with grated cheese and salad w o dressing milky coffee, Sn:
low fat milk rice, D: stir fry w pasta chicken and veg) My goal is
reduce by one point a day until I have my 18 points which I used to
have during the weight loss period.(European system) Got to get used
to lower points slowly but will stop if weight loss is too quick. My
Pedeometer was showing 11000 steps before I accidently hit the reset
button still 2 hours before bed too.  Not to sure how many activity
points I think with 11000+ steps I will give myself 1 point. It feels
good to be back on track.  I think I will save my 1.5 point towards
the weekend.  Now the plan for tomorrow is 22 points.

Michelle, sorry for your weight gain, but it is also a good sign wrt
your recent medical history. If you lost weight without trying, that
would be more worrisome. I am sure that you re-lose your gain. I hope
that your doctor is aware of and approves your diet.

My doctor doesn't really want me to lose weight at the moment but to
maintain, alot of the weight is probably water from the medication,
but the 60kg mark is my psychological barrier. I will lose 1 to 2 lbs
to get below and then back to maintaining. I had built up a
conciderable clothing allowance but I won't really be trying for that
now.

I dunno, I would go with the doctor's suggestions, if I were in your
position. Losing 9 kg (13% of body weight) after a surgery like this
is a big deal, especially since weight loss and thyroid function are
related, so a doctor may know something that you don't. Maybe ask him
why he thinks you should not lose weight. See if he has anything
worthwhile to say. Perhaps he would agree to suggest to postpone your
weight loss by a few months, to see if there is any new disease, and
to proceed with it if there is no new disease?

To those who might pop up here saying that "ignoranus is dispensing
medical advice", this is not medical advice, but common sense based
advice. This was a suggestion to follow a doctor's advice after a
complex medical situation. This is not a run of the mill dieter
situation. One has to tread carefully.

Imisread your numbers, sorry, you only want to lose 2.5 kg. Still, I
would go with a doctor.

Do you have the Flex Point program in Europe?  The lowest the US program
goes is 20 points for everyone under 150 lbs.  IIRC the old system here did
go down to 18 points.  I'm currently at the 20 point level and don't have
too much trouble sticking with it.  The Flex Point system allows for an
additional 35 points each week and 1 point for each 30 minutes of exercise.

No we don't have the flex point program here. Our points are a little
different, we get  lower points but can earn activity points ( max of
12 a week) but there are alot of fruit and most veg that have 0
points, so no problems on the amount allowed to eat, you just have to
make sensible choices :-) For example breakfast today 30 g muesli w
fruit no sugar 2 points 10g bran with prunes 0.5 points 120 ml skim
milk 1 point, grated apple 0 points. One very filling breakfast for
just 3.5 points.

Sounds like you're doing well getting back on track, Michelle.  I
don't think the 5 3/4 lbs. weight gain is bad at all, considering.
You're catching it before it's gotten out of control, and you know how
to deal with it, so I'm sure you'll succeed.

Thanks Chris. I need to deal with this now before it turns into 15+lbs
like normal.

That really wasn't so bad of a weight gain in my eyes -- but you are very smart to
catch it now. Looks like you are doing terrific on exercise too. I am pulling for
you, Michelle!

Thanks Mary. This week has been much better choice wise. I am seeing a
drop on my scale so I am looking forward to my next weigh in. No real
exercise just walking, I am not allowed back in the weight room yet,
and can't do any serious cardio either.  So gentle walking it is for
now.
