Chris Braun - 15 Aug 2004 03:38 GMT Well, here's the data for the week I spent in North Carolina. Rather more food and less exercise than usual. There were some good reasons for both, though, and I don't feel any fatter :-). The calories weren't way over budget but the food choices weren't always too great. (If you read this, you may note all the chocolates. My mother likes to eat one or two a couple of times a day, and given that her appetite had faded away to almost nothing, and her weight had dropped from around 107 to around 102, I was buying whatever she would be tempted to eat. And of course I joined her :-) .) Anyway, here's the data:

That was it, other than miscellaneous errand running (and a certain amount of stress:-) ).
I did find time for some clothes shopping -- bought nothing bigger than a size 8, and several 6s :-).

Even when I was very thin, as a young adult, I could never fit into anything smaller than a size 14 UK, which is a US size 10-12. Now I am UK size 18 (US 14-16), but I know that even if I were to get down to 65 kg (which I don't actually plan to), I wouldn't drop more than 1 or at most 2 clothes sizes. Sigh. I'm very broad-shouldered, you see, as are all the family.

I'm very >broad-shouldered, you see, as are all the family. I'm actually very broad-shouldered as well (and muscular, because of the weight lifting), but mostly that just limits the kinds of tops I will wear.
When I was in college (in the late 1960s) and at about the same weight as I am now, I generally wore a size 12. It's not so much that I'm smaller now, but that clothing sizes have changed over time. I expect today's size 8 is more like a 1960s size 12. So you may surprise yourself if you get to 65kg :-). I know it was a surprise to me; I always said I couldn't get below a 12 with my bone structure, but I didn't know they were bigger now.
Yesterday while shopping (you may note that I've become a shopaholic
:-) ) I actually had to regretfully put back a jacket and pants that I loved because the 8 was a little too big, and they didn't have anything smaller!

It still seems ludicrous, honestly. But there are brands I used to like (probably because they ran big :-) ) where all the sizes are now too big for me. (We are talking here about brands that cater primarily to middle-aged ladies, I think.)

Yes, last time I got down to 10 stone 7 lb - can't think what that is in kilos at the moment - I was surprised to find myself fitting into M&S size 14 trousers. That was over ten years ago now.

That was over ten years ago now. Annabel, I'm curious to know why you express your weight here in kilos, which seems to neither mean anything to people like me (or presumably you) who wiegh in stones, or to the majority of people here who weigh in pounds.
I have to get the calculator out to post my weight here in pounds, but I haven't even got round to converting your numbers so have no idea what you weigh:)
janice (just curious)

I tend to think in kilos now, rather than pounds or stones. Ten years ago, I thought in stones - and twenty years before that, when I lived in France, in kilos..... such is life.

Congrats, Chris, that must have felt good (even though you didn't buy them ;-)
Elly off to buy a new swimming suit on Saturday and dreading those mirrors in advance!

I'm very >broad-shouldered, you see, as are all the family. I know from past experience, repeated many times over, that I lose close to 1 inch from my hips for every 7 lbs of weight, and 1 inch from my bust for every 10lbs (that's probably because I carry most of my weight on my hips). I have very narrow shoulders and nothing stays on them properly. My collar bones are already sticking out. I wish I was more in proportion!

Bet it was tasty, but you best choices are always a fair balance of all your food groups. However, I am so glad you got to treat yourself!! Especially with family- food always tastes better with family, imho.

I was kind of constrained by what was available, among other things. At any rate, I lost two pounds during the week I was away -- and I'm not trying to lose more weight.
