REC - turkey burgers

I bought turkey burger because it was on sale and it was really low in fat.
But I can't stand turkey...  I found a way that I like it, so thought I'd
share.

Thaw 1 lb of turkey, mix in 2 eggs, 2 slices of whole wheat bread, some
dehydrated onion, garlic salt, pepper, and a couple tablespoons of miracle
whip lite.  Form into patties and grill, or broil in oven for 5 minutes.

These are pretty tasty, and fairly good nutrition-wise.

As an aside, one day I thought I'd buy some ground chicken for a dish
thinking it would take away what I consider a distinctive undertone of
ground turkey in things like "beef" barbque, I looked at the fat content and
was shocked to see how high it was.  I was just as well off buying the beef.
I will try your turkey burgers...I'd love to find a way to fix ground turkey
without complaints from the kiddies.  Elise.

You really have to watch the label - some ground turkey or chicken is alot
of dark meat, which is higher in fat.

Not only dark meat but they actually put skin in it too which is the worst
part fat wise.

When I lived in south Jersey, people called it the "brown meat".
Cracked me up all the time.

I've been using it in soup, that seems to work out well.

Brown 1.25 lbs ground turkey (low fat, drain the grease)

Combine browned turkey in stock pot with
5 cups canned tomato puree
5 cups water
1 bag frozen veggie soup mix
2 bay leaves
*spice to taste*

Bring to a slight boil, and simmer for about 20-30 minutes.

* Spices for me usually include about 1/8 cup powdered garlic, 1 tbsp hot
pepper seeds, and 2 tbsp cracked pepper.

This makes about 5 2-cup servings, at about 360 calories each.

You can sometimes find ground chicken breast.  Some ground chicken is
made with mostly dark meat and is quite high in fat.

It's easier to find ground turkey breast.  And even regular ground
turkey (light and dark) is pretty good as far as fat content.

I also grind my own in my food processor, then I know what's in it.  DH
prefers when I grind beef because he likes the "rough" grind.
