Falling off the wagon/Stress & Relief eating

So it only took the biggest fire in San Diego history, and getting evacuated
from my house on Sunday afternoon to put me in stress eating mode, and back to
my old habits.

We were let back into our house on Monday afternoon, and my immediate
neighborhood is fine, although we did lose houses less than a mile away from
me.

Wasn't able to go dancing on Sunday night (club was closed), No exercise class
Monday night (rec center was closed, but at least it didn't burn), and with
all the smoke in the air, we can't do much else.

So I suppose today I should go back to some exercise (my work isn't too smokey
and there's a gym here), and back to my WOE, but I'm having a really hard time
avoiding the vending machine, and I really just want to stuff myself. My goals
just don't seem too important anymore.

The scale has already started to go up, it could be water as I've been eating
pretty salty crap, but I don't really care all that much either.

Any ideas? help? motivation?

These things happen to everyone.  Well, the specific thing of having my
entire county catch on fire has never happened, but you know what I
mean.  Life throws us a curve ball.

The only thing you can do is survive and get back on the wagon as soon as
you can.  This is true of a sprained ankle or a death in the family or a
traumatic break-up or what-have-you.  The more you practice getting back
into a healthy lifestyle the easier it gets and the shorter the time is
that you're off it.

Glad to hear you weren't burned out!

Mieko,
This has to be one of the most stressful situations for anyone.  I'm glad
to hear your home was spared and you've been able to move back.  I'm sure
many of us would be feeling our weight loss goals weren't too important if
we were in your situation right now.

I think it's a wonderful idea to get back into exercise and the woe as soon
as possible.  Hopefully getting back to a more normal routine will help
relieve some of the stress and rev up the motivation.

Hang in there.  We are all thinking of you.  Drink a lot of water and
try to get some fruits/veggies around you to munch on instead of the
salty stuff.  I hope that you are able to get back to you WOL/WOE again
soon.  Please check in with us often so that we know that you are ok.

Well, you've certainly had your fair share of stress to deal with.
I'm glad to hear your house is ok.   How scarey.

You've made the first step in realizing that you have let things go.
And in a time like this, I don't blame you.  :)    But you recognize
the problem, and that is one of the biggest steps.   Then next is,
getting back up on the wagon.   Start by pre-planning all your food
intake for the next couple days.   Don't give yourself any room to add
in anything.   And, take advantage of that gym at work.  Go on your
lunch hour or right after work.

You'll be fine.
