Just caught this blurb on Entertainment Tonight.   I particularly like the
comments Emme makes about herself on the magizine covers and her model
friends who are 60lbs lighter than her, who, when even they see themselves
on mag covers they say they've never looked so thin.

Emme & Melissa: The Struggle with Perfection in Hollywood

October 31, 2003
On Thursday, ET introduced you to MELISSA DeHART, the 58-pound, former
newscaster who is struggling with anorexia and bulimia. Now, plus-sized
supermodel EMME is sitting down with Melissa to try to help her change her
perception that being skinny equals success.

"Sometimes I'll look at myself on a cover and I'll say, 'I didn't have that
color of hair!' 'You know, that's a little brighter.' 'I had a zit on my
face'; 'Oh, it's gone,'" Emme tells Melissa about airbrushing and other
deceptive practices on magazine covers.

"But I've had other friends who were 60, 70 pounds thinner than I am in the
straight-size modeling industry who still stand in front of a mirror and
still tug at themselves and say, 'I don't look like that,'" she continues.
"They themselves, who are the 'ideals' of the industry, still have their own
adversity towards the way that they look; their hips, their thighs. I think
every single woman, whether they're a size two or 22, has that kind of
issue. Did you ever know that?"

Emme was inspiring to me.  I remember when she first became famous.  It was
great to see someone that wasn't skinny and still be beautiful.

I remember an interview she once did years ago.  She used to be a very thin
model and was always feeling sick and weak from constant starving.  She
gained weight, exercises alot and is still in very great shape.  Don't quote
me verbatim, this was an interview several years ago.

Sounds like avoiding Hollywood is a good thing then.

Not everyone who's overweight has "body issues". I didn't, and heaven
knows "tub of lard" Dr. Phil doesn't have any either.

If you have great self-esteem you should be able to accept the
obvious, that no one's body is perfect, and to some degree we all have
to accept "good enough" in all aspects of our lives.

The point I got out of it was - that even the super thin and beautiful
models care shocked at what they see when they see the final product of
their photo shoots on magizine covers.

Those pictures are all touched up and edited to make them look slimmer than
they are, cover blemishes or other "mistakes" and smooth out any wrinkles,
cellulite or stretch marks.

Those "beauties" may not be as perfect as they appear.   Something we should
all consider as we strive to lose weight and are dissappointed with our
appearance after the weight is gone.  <cough..  wendy, cough, beeswing,...
