I joined 24 hour fitness tonight.  I've been going to Curves for about 3
months now, 3-5x a week.  I decided I wanted more variety and challenge.
Hubby is a member there and we worked out tonight... if it wasn't for toning
up at Curves, I would have been mush all day!!!

Anyway, I play on going to Curves 2-3x a week and 24 hour fitness 2-3x a
week....

Excellent!!  A variety of workouts is the best way to go.  I find that
Curves is a good workout, but not nearly as intense as I need on a regular
basis.  As time has gone on, I found it works only for resistance but no
cardio.  I wish there was a decent health club in the vicinity, but the one
in town sucks.  Hopefully I'll be able to afford the membership at the
resort after my surgery later this month and I can start there in Dec. along
with Curves.  It's been so cold and rainy/snowy all week and it's not
supposed to let up until next week sometime so I'm running in the rain
tomorrow.

Working out with the hubby is a nice way to spend time together.

Living well is the best revenge

Where I live in Plano (N. Dallas), there are a ton of health clubs.   We
actually live right between two 24 fitnesses and there are 4 Curves nearby
within a 15 mile radius.  One of the Curves locations is literally 1/2 a
mile away!

Anyway, I am excited because 24 hr fitness has yoga and pilates classes.
I've been meaning to take yoga classes but have not gotten around to it
yet....

As I've said, I still want to continue at Curves as well... for the variety.
I also like that I can go at any time to 24 hr fitness... Curves here is
open 8-1 and 4-8 m-t, 8-1 and 4-7 on Fridays and 8-12 on Saturdays.  There
are days that I work late or want to sleep in on Saturday.... and I can just
go to 24 hr fitness instead.

What type of resort??

I live in an area that is a tourist haven.  We have a lot of hotels, condos,
etc with pools and fitness rooms that sell memberships to locals in the off
season (winter).  The one I intend to join has two treadmills, an
elliptical, two bikes, and a stepper in addition to the pool, whirlpool, and
sauna.

When I first joined a gym over a year ago, I was so afraid that I'd "fall
off the wagon" and fail again, that I was going to the gym 6-7 days per
week, with workouts that neared 1 1/2 hrs.  I kept that up for about 3-4
months, then gave it up out of sheer burnout.  Didn't go to the gym at all
in January, although I continued to lose weight via good diet and downhill
skiing.  I think in Feb I started back hit and miss, but by June I was back
at it 2-3 times a week consistantly.  I have now settled into a very
comfortable schedule of a 30 minute weight workout, do my cardio outside of
the gym, and my results are as good as or better than what I was doing in
the beginning.

What I'm saying is, you have to find a comfortable groove, in order for it
to become a permanent wol.

I agree.  I don't want to burn myself out.  I will keep gym work-outs for an
hour or less each time I go.  I know what it is like to put pressure on
myself and to obsess about going.

Anyway, my plan is to take one piyo class a week (pilates/yoga mat class),
do treadmill 2x a week and work out arms and legs 1-2x a week each.  In
addition, I want to go to Curves 2-3x a week.

ITA.  Burnout will kill a workout routine faster than pretty much anything
besides injury.  I found that going to Curves each morning first thing
before work is what works best for me and my schedule.  It gets me out of
bed and the workout isn't intense enough to lead to burnout.  I let myself
sleep in once in a while if I need it.  The other stuff I do is quite varied
but I have established a routine of running on Saturday mornings before
Curves.  I'll probably switch to snowshoeing when the roads are too covered
to run.

That sounds like a great plan!  I really enjoy having a variety of
things to do -- various stuff to do at the gym plus biking and hiking on
weekends and walking...  Keeps me out of trouble (more or less)  :-)

I hope that you enjoy it and I envy the fact that DH is joining you.  I
must say, though, that overall my DH has been very supportive -- even if
he doesn't go to the gym with me.
