Lazy gut is where my stomach holds the food in there for several hours, long
past when it should have exited into the doudenum & the bowels.  My fatty
liver is directly related to my pancreatitis.

As for the responses, I'm on limited time but will respond later when I have
time.

Rechelle, have you asked your doctor what is the best way to lose
weight for you?

I suggest the following weight plan, not knowing much, just for your
consideration.

1. Stop eating sugar and junk food.
2. Eat more vegetables.
3. Otherwise eat everything as before, whatever is safe for you,. but
make sure (via counting calories or otherwise) that you eat less
calories than you spend.
4. Start walking for 90 minutes per day.

The result is guaranteed and this program is very forgiving of poor
health.

OK - my appologies.

Let me clarify my post.   Many people have various medical conditions
that can hinder weight loss.  But that just means that if you hjave
one of these, you need to be more determined to OVER COME them and not
use them as an excuse to remain fat.

Think of it as a "disability"....  Look at someone who loses their
eyesight.  Does that mean they are going to shut themselves up in a
cave and never go out?   Well, I'm sure some people do.  But then many
others overcome the disability and learn how to live with it, and end
up getting out there and making something of themselves.   THey learn
to walk w/ a cane, get a seeing eye dog, read braille, etc and so on.
They create a semblance of normal life.

Take that approach to the weight loss.   Don't let it hinder you.

And, like others have said - talk to your doctor about a plan that
will work for you.   What foods to stay away from, what foods not to
avoid.  Ask about exercise.  Look into weight training.

There is so much you can do - and you can be successful.

That sounds like it would make it hard to overeat and improper digestion
would not allow you to use all the calories in the food you do eat.
Wouldn't this cause weight loss?

Look at children who suffer malnutrition.  They get bloated, distended
stomachs.  Combine that with a pancreas & liver that don't function properly
and it actually can make things worse.

My understanding is that the bloating and distended abdomen is related to
ascites which is an accumulation of fluid related to portal hypertension.
It does not respond to standard remedies for obesity because it is fluid and
not fat.

I'm just going by what my GI said.  I had asked about the weight loss & he
said that not everyone suffers that.  He said my stomach is distended and
hard instead of soft tissue, which is attributed to the "lazy gut".

:D Hey I know mine's fat.  I gained a ton of weight after my first, life
threatening round of pancreatitis and not being fed for 2 weeks.  NPO for 2
weeks sucks!  LOL!

NPO would be a hospital induced eating disorder if you ask me.  Keep working
with your docs to understand why you are carrying the excess weight.  Eating
well and exercising certainly won't hurt you but it would be nice if they
could find a way to restore some of your liver and gut functions to normal
or near normal.  Have you heard back about your blood sugar tests, yet?

Haven't had them yet, still waiting on the "official" diagnosis for the gut
issue, that's the test they did on Tuesday (nastiest test around if you ask
me).  We know that I have it, but doctor had to go through the motions.  My
family dr will have to order the blood sugar tests.  Ah the joys of doctors,
they take more money than they're worth half the time.  LOL!

Try NPO for 2 weeks with only "nutrition" coming in through an IV line back
when morphine pumps were used only for terminal patients (at least in
Edmonton they were).  I was NPO and higher than a kite on morphine.  Scooby
Doo is really funny when you're messed up from pain meds.  LOL!  That's the
only thing I remember.

Uh, you suppose my vitamins are laced with Morphine?  I love Scooby Doo:)

Your attitude is wonderful.  Yes, you have a tone of 'excuses' not to
exercise and address your weight and yet, you keep coming back for more
advice!  You will do well in the long run, I assure you.  It will be hard
for you just as it is hard for a diabetic who cannot metabolize sugar or the
arthritic person on steroids but you seem to really want to take charge of
your health and your life.  That will take you further than any diet book or
plan can ever do for you.  I would wish you 'Good Luck' but it seems
irrelevant what I want for you.  You will be the one to make the difference
in your life and when you want support for your decisions, I hope you come
here.

Ah you can either feel sorry for yourself or do something about it.  I know
*why* got overweight, now I know what I need to do to lose it (ok cutting
sugar out is about to make me a very grouchy person).  I love my pasta
though, so that is one thing I can't cut.  Plus with meat sauce, I get
protein & fat but with enough carbs it doesn't mess me up painwise
generally.  I'm going to have to go to my family doctor & request a blood
sugar test.  <sigh>

You'll have to bear with me if I take awhile to respond, I don't get on here
very often just due to my work hours or spending time with hubby. :D

As for Scooby Doo, that was the first time I ever saw it.  It was hilarious
though on morphine.  Still enjoy it & saw the live action movie with Sarah
Michelle Gellar & ... oh what's her husband's name?? Anyways, you know which
one.

Have a good weekend!
