The hardest step is the first step. It is wonderful that you decided to
take that first step. I once weighed 324, so I know what it is like.

A lot of people start dieting and give up before reaching their target
weight. Much fewer people finish dieting by getting to normal
weight. Even fewer people manage to maintain. Now what is easier now?
Starting something or getting it done?

Depends on the personality of the person involved :)

outstanding. Your body will surely thank you! and if you eat right and
do a little bit of exercise, in a few weeks you may start feeling
better already. How tall are you?

im 6'2 and large strong build, partly due to my job of doing a lot of
lifting and moving of things
since starting this week ive mostly done ok, i havent done as well as i
wanted this week but this week has been much better than any previous
week ... ive added eating fruit instead of chocolate and crisps for my
lunch and tried to cut back on take out food ... ive started eating
breakfast which i used to skip, 3 shredded wheat with some splenda for
sweetness and semi skimmed milk instead of full fat
a start ..

That's a great start. It's those little changes we make that soon result in
the habits we need to lose and maintain our weight loss. None of us are
perfect so don't worry about the occasional slip. The most important thing
we can do is put it behind us and start again. Take out food can be a
problem but with wise choices you can work it into your diet. I'm not one
who can stick to one of the brand name diets so I've learned to make the
best food choices for my particular lifestyle and it seems to suit me fine.
I'm sure you'll be able to do the same for yourself.

Agreed Beverly
Making a conscious effort to change our eating habits and exercise
habits is the best way to start and to keep going at this lifestyle
change everyday.
Nev, you didn't mention water?
I suggest as much water intake as you can manage in a day each and every
day.

i know .... water ... yak!
i dont like to drink water on its own from tap or bottle, most of my
fluid intake is diet soft drinks like pepsi max, diet coke and some
coffee with sweeteners but mostly the soft drinks ... i know i need to
change this if only to get away from drinking so much caffeine
what would be a good addition to water to get a better taste - i dont
like most sqaush type additions like orange, mainly as they taste yak
again - the ones i do like im sure wouldnt be good for me as probably
full of sugar! ... or should i try and persevere with drinking the water
- but i think id find it difficult to do and things are tuff enough
already

I like to squeeze a little lemon in my water. Crystal Light is another of
my favorites. I really like some of their flavored teas. If you've never
been a water drinker it will take time to become accustomed to the taste.
Over time you might even learn to like it :)
Keep a bottle of water handy at work and home. You'll be surprised how
much water you'll drink by just taking small sips.

There was a thread on tea a while back. I looked up green tea on the
internet. Apparently, if you were to believe everything written, it
prevents cancer, lowers blood sugar, increases metabolism, kills the flu
virus, prevents cavities and establishes world peace. Obviously, I am
skeptical of the myriad of claims. However, no one has ever once boasted
about the antioxidant qualities in diet pepsi.......
What I have been doing each evening is boiling two quarts of water. I take
it off the stove and steep 3 Lipton green tea bags (190 mg antioxidants ea.)
and two of either the mixed berry or mint. It makes for a weak tea which I
like with just a hint of flavor. If it does even half of what it says, I
may live to be 900 yrs old.

Will it prevent wrinkles :) You may need that benefit if you plan on
living that long<G>
I've read many of the articles on green tea and have to admit it's probably
a much better choice than some of the other low-cal liquids I consume.

Good for you, making the decision to start is a great step forward. Healthy
eating and exercise is definately a great way to loose the weight. I
started dieting about 5 weeks ago now, I'm seeing big differences. Stick to
it, post to the group - these people are great!

Congratulations! You've taken the most important step in your weight loss
journey. I agree there will probably be some ups and downs along the way.
The most important thing is to stick with it.
