Jay Bird - 01 Dec 2004 00:26 GMT Does anybody have anything to say positive or negative about LA Weight Loss Centers? It seems like people who do it have good success. But it also seems like their nutritional bars that they push are way overpriced. Are their "counselors" on a commission to sell them or what?

I worked at one in Indianapolis for a couple of months. Basically their program is reducing calorie intake pure and simple. The nutrition bars are just an additional source of income for the business and YES they are overpriced.
As an employee there I got a set salary and then a commission for everybody who signed up as well as a commission for any retail sales.
It's exactly like any other program. If you want to lose the weight badly enough, you will stick to the reduced calorie program and you will lose it. But it isn't anything that anybody couldn't buy a $10 book and do themselves - with the proper motivation. There is nothing *THAT* special about LA Weightloss. They do have an excellent employee training program though. I was very impressed with it. They really teach you a lot about physiology and anatomy but mostly they teach you how to sell the program.

Be careful what you wish for....
Sudsy - 23 Aug 2005 04:26 GMT My expereince is that this is a below average program - nothing new is offered here. Its a VERY low cal plan, quite challenging to navigate, VERY expensive products (yes - those 'bars' - they taste just OK) and a '3 times a week' commitment - yes, you have to go in and get weighed 3 times each week!! Sometimes you wait 45 mins just to step onthe scale?! You probably will lose weight but there are easier, more pleasant and less expensive ways to do it!!

I've lost over 50 lbs through L.A. Weight Loss. I go to the one in Vincennes, IN. I've been going there for almost a year now. The counselors there are great. They really care about me and my goal to keep the weight off. I haven't used the bars or products for several months now and am not pushed into buying their products. I've hoped I've helped you.

Teddy - 12 Jun 2006 05:57 GMT Hi Blue Eyes and everyone in this forum,
I'm Teddy. I've just joined the LA WL program for 12 days. I'm currently 123 lbs, and need to lose 8 more lbs to hit my goal . My goal is losing 12 lbs.
I'm writing this to you seeking for your advise of how I am suppose to do next after the unpleasant visit that I had yesterday with the LA Manager. First of all, I have to tell you that English is my seconde lang. so please bear with me here and forgive my incorrect grammas and spelling.
Like I said at the beginning, I've just joined the LA Weight Loss program in less than 2 weeks. Right before starting, I reached an agreement with my counselor that I won't take any supplements, bars or any source of nutrient (product) from the LA Program. It againt my culture, my belief and my philosophy. I can cook and enjoy eating as well. So I'd prefer to take in a REAL food that I really like. I even asked them to tell me the "hiden cost" that I may have to pay so I can just pay it right a head as long as they help me to achieve my goal without taking any of their product. My counselor had completely understood and agreed with me on this as well as she told me that there is no hiden cost and I don't have to take their product if I don't want to. I can just stricly follow the nutrient plan to achieve my goal. So, we signed the agreement with her notes stating that I don't have to take any of these. She had been a great counselor to me. That gave me a big encourage to join the program and stricly follow her advised. I'm on "Green Plan". For 12 days, I had lost 4.5 lbs. I'm doing so great during a day. I thought I would be very happy to show her my achievement at my weekly visit which was yesterday..
However, I was so disappointed to know that ..."she's no longer with the company". Based on the tone of her manager's voice, I think there is something not right for her. Of course, I couldn't get much information about her from the manager.
What I'm about to tell you is the main reason why I join this forum and need your help. My weekly visit was yesterday and thing start when the manager was trying to sell me their product. I must sid that It's been 12 days that I have to work so hard to stay on the diet plan as well as workout harder to achieve my goal. So, I thought losing almost 5 lbs should be a paid off. And during 12 days, I took only 1 LA bar (a free sample) on day 12th since I couldn't make it to lunch and was so hungry. She start pursuing me to buy their product by putting me in a "take off" plan that I have to take 32 oz of "fast foward weight loss" with strictly diet plan for 2 days then have 4 "follow up" plan that I have to reduce the amount of "real" food then drink their Slim Down and eat the Lite Bars. I told her about my agreement with the program, I told her how good I'm doing so far ... then asked her ... "why I have to take these product instead of eating my own food?" She told me that ... I'm losing weight because ... I took an LA bar (?). To be honest with you, I took only 1 bar and that was only 1 day before I went to the center for my weekly visit and talk to her. So, I asked her ... "how can the bar that I took ... yesterday could help me to lose almost 5 lbs today?" And of course, she ignored that question then start talking about the "take off" plan that she wants me to do for the next 2 days and of course with ... taking these products. Then she took me to their supplier room and start asking me what flavor I want for the Slim Down and bars.... I've almost fallen for that until she stacked the bag with 4 pack of Slim Down then make me buy 5 boxes of LA bar. Suddenly, I realize ... why do I need that much of their product when I told them I don't want it. Then she told me ... I have to ... buy these LA bars sooner or later because ... I have to take 1 bar/day in the maintance period to be able to ... take half of my money back. Of course, I don't see this condition on the agreement at all but I don't worry about that for now. I kept telling her that I don't want those bar from the beginning, I don't want them now and of course I definitely don't want to eat them while I'm at the end of the program, then she said ... "if you don't want them, you don't have to eat them". So I asked her ..."if you said I don't have to eat them then ... why I have to buy them?". She said ... "so we can make sure we know ... what you eat during the ... maintance period so we can help you not gaining weight back....". She didn't sound so convince to me at all, especially, the part that "eating 1 LA bar per day ... will give them an idea of how to ensure I'm doing well with the program...." Lucky me, I had a strong head at that moment, so I confirmed her (again) that I don't want those bar. Finally, she stacked 3 bottles of "fast forward weight loss" juice into the bag then told me ..."well, then please at least drink this". And of course those drink cost me almost $70. I don't mind to pay a little extra just to make her... happy at all. However, after paying, suddenly she wants me to come back next Tues. (2 days after finishing the juice) to see her (instead of next Sat. for weekly visit). I asked why I have to see her so ... soon... then she said she need to change my diet plan to "Gold color" because ... I don't take any of their product. I asked her why have to change if I'm doing good so far... She said ... "well, you were in a wrong plan, we need to put you in a ... right plan". At this point, I don't want to argue with her anymore then start changing the subject as well as making a few joke then walking out with a nice smile. Really, I don't want to ... piss her off anymore after refusing to buy their product.
However, I am so worry since yesterday and I can be over reaction or panick... But I'm really worry that I don't want to begin the "take off" plan that she gave me. I'm suppose to start it tomorrow then come back to see her next Tues to ... change my plan. I'm so ... afraid that she will do whatever it takes to sell me the products to earn commission without concerning my goal, my request. I'm afraid she will put me in the plan that ... preventing me from achieve my goal so she can convince me that I need to take those products to reach my goal.... She did say that the "Gold Plan" will have more nutrient, more portion of food I can take. She even mentioned that ... "the green plan is so stricly for you" (even if I didn't complain about that green plan at all).
What I'm asking you here is please tell me what I suppose to do, what should I tell her and if any of you have the problem similar to mine from your counselor? I need your response soon before coming to see her on this Tues (June 13). And if any of you know if we can change counselor or diff. LA office to continue on the program. What really make me worry is that she's the manager of that office, I can't imagine what will impact my plan if I told her ... I don't want her to be my counselor ( but want someone who is ... working for her).
Please please give me some advices. Thank you so much. Teddy

I don't have a problem with the bars, as I always buy that kind of thing instead of candy bars. I love the Double Chocolate-I cut it into little pieces, which I keep in the freezer, and pop them in my mouth when I'm having a chocolate urge. I purchased the new cookbook and both my husband and I are enjoying the simple recipes that keep the food interesting. My franchise does not push anything, but, I did not go for the refund program. I went with the 8 week program and almost everything was included. When you figure out the cost per week, including the Slim Down, bars, and counseling, the cost is inline with other programs. My husband and I were looking for a heart healthy program that we could stay on for the rest of our lives. The program is much easier to stay on than Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, or Diet Center. This program makes you so aware of delicious choices, instead of trying to include bad foods that stay within some kind of count. Anyway, I think that the program is good and I hope that you can straighten out the "people problem". I am on the Gold Plan and my only problem is breaking my old bad habits. Wishing us both lots of luck, will power, and good health! rohogrande

That manager was out only for money. Green plan was the right plan for you, and you should not have been changed to Gold. You were losing the correct amount of weight ,( they guarantee an average of 2 pounds a week ) if you lost 4.5 pounds in 12 days your average weight loss per week was over 2 pounds. So why would you need to use their 2 day take off program( the fast forward juice she sold you)? Why would you need to La Lite Bars? Why would you need the La Slim Down? You didn't need them the manager at that store needed/wanted a sale. And she got one at your expense. I am not saying that you may have never needed, wanted or asked about these products but at the time she recommended them to you, they were not needed and there was no reason for her to sale them to you other then increasing the stores revenue and reaching her weekly sales quota. Follow your Green plan, the Gold plan she wants to put you on has more food and will probably slow you weight loss down so she can tell you that you need more supplements and of La Lite Bars. She then will tell you that you need more weight loss weeks and the next thing you know you will be out hundreds of dollars you never had to spend. You were on track to lose your weight why would and one that really cares about you do what she did?
faireytale - 10 Jan 2007 23:03 GMT Teddy Boy Teddy you really had quite an ordeal....That is awful sort of like mine .. Well when I went there the manager was my counselor or person who went over everything with me...she was so pushy so PUSHY and kept on and on and on about how if I don't do it now I will put on another fifty pounds and if I had a credit card to charge the amount to..I told her no I didn't it was at home and I would have to discuss it with my husband first since they wanted about $500 then she wanted me to call home and get the numbers...She kept on and on and would not let me out the door she just was awful...Finally after about a hour or more I finally wrote her a check for the amount she wanted otherwise she would not let me go.....Then I thought about it and went and put stop payment on the check.....That was the only way I could get out..I felt like I was being kidnapped or something held hostage......lol...but really......I have a friend who did very well on the program so I thought I would try it but I have not been back since....I have heard that girl is no longer there so maybe it's different...I am thinking about trying it again.... hope you are doing well on yours.....

>Hi Blue Eyes and everyone in this forum, > [quoted text clipped - 110 lines] >> >>Blue Eyes amylee - 03 Aug 2006 05:48 GMT What ever happened? I think the reason why your counsler was gone is because she was fired for not pushing those famous bars on people. Somebody should set that manager straight and tell her that you will not be bullied or harassed into taking those bars and the subject will not be up for discussion again, period. Did you know that they were sued for the way they would lie about the benefits of those bars and drinks and vitamins, and guess what they had to pay almost a million dollers.

I costs a fortune!!! I had the same thing happen to me that when I went to check it out and they told me the cost, I said I would think about it. My counselor noted that if I waited I would have even more weight to loose down the road. I was seriously looking for a plan and had only checked out Lindora and the price was in line so I signed up for it. However, they didn't tell me the exhorbitant price for their bars. They gave me a coupon for a bulk purchase and sat me down and explained the different bulk programs. After they picked me up off the floor (lol) I said I just wouldn't used the bars. (now mind you, I was already committed in the program by this time). They said I had to have them because it was the only way I would get my sugar. So I bought the largest amount of bars to "save" (ha!) the most money. Now, I have lost 55 lbs so I'm on the fence about the program. It does work but I have to follow the plan so exactly or I put on a few pounds. I actually have signed up for 40 more lbs because they tole me that the biggest part of the initial fee (which was very high) covered the maintenance and I could buy 40 more lbs for just $145 more. That didn't sound bad to me. However I was just informed that I didn't have enough bars to complete the weight loss and I would cost me $800+ more to get the rest of the bars. Well, I'm pretty sick of this program and have been fighting 10 lbs since August and not sure I want to go through 5 more month on this program, so I asked for my $145 back. They all laughed and said that they would miss me, and that I have been using the extra weeks, etc, etc, etc. So I'm real torn about the program. It does work if I stick to it, but I know there are cheaper effective ways to loose the weight. (I do have to say, I love the bars, though. I look forward to having the two "candy bars" each day, guilt free. So make your decision, but I would say STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROGRAM!!!

JoAnneCay - 20 Aug 2007 21:03 GMT Hi! I just had my consult today. My DH told me not to sign anything because of previous mistakes. Thanks for being honest. I almost cried when I left the center because I DIDN'T sign up. But after reading your posts I think I saved a bunch. but now I am still curious about the plan. I think the 8 week plan is gone - they told me I would have to sign up for 52 weeks nothing shorter.
Thanks again, JoAnne
