Food:

6:30 (driving to gym): energy bar

8:30 (diner w/ Tom): 2 fried eggs; English muffin w/ butter; 8 oz.
grapefruit juice

12:45 (restaurant): salad w/ seared rare tuna, greens, pine nuts,
dates, tomatoes, fresh ginger, vinaigrette; 1 piece of raisin nut
bread

5:00 (home): 1 oz. mixed nuts

7:00 (home): 170g leftover turkey meatloaf; 3 slice melted f/f cheese;
ketchup

Totals: 1520 calories, 69g fat (41%), 123g carbs (32%), 105g protein
(28%)  (Rather a lot of fat, but mostly from the tuna & nuts.)

7:00 a.m. -- Exercise:

Ran (with Tom) twice around the outside of the gym (with a short rest
in between).  It's a large building  --  don't know how far this is --
takes a couple of minutes to go around.   The first time was at around
a 12 minute mile pace, and not too hard.  The second was at around a
10 minute mile pace and was quite a bit harder.  I want to get some
practice at running outdoors and this was a good place and day to do
it -- though it was already warm and humid at 7:00 a.m..  (The gym we
go to on Wednesday mornings is a free-standing building and suitable
for this.  The other one is in a busy shopping center and doesn't have
a good place to run.)

In basketball court: one length high knee run, one length butt kick
run, one length skipping, one length walking kicking foot up to
outstretched hand, 5 one-length sprints

Bosu ball: 2x10 squats, standing on flat side

Pull-ups: 1 negative (really an attempt to hang at the top, with Tom
giving me a boost up and holding me while I stabilize and lock out my
back -- I'm**very** close but not quite able to stay up there on my
own); then on assistance machine: 1x3x50, 1x5x60, 1x7x70

Dot mat:  (illustrated here:
http://mauihs.k12.hi.us/mauihigh/Soccerweb/fig8.html)  Hop in pattern:
center, back right, center, front right, center, front left, center,
back left, center -- Once through, then 5 times in a row, then twice
in a row -- trying to go fast and not stop in between hops.

Could you have picked a worse day to run outside?  I think the parking lot
around that gym is almost as bad as the one at ours!  There are crazy people
that drive through that lot!

I've seen you write about doing  these and have seen Heath have some of his
soccer/basketball kids do these.  What is the reasoning behind the high
stepping, butt kicking thing?

Yeah -- I don't think we realized how muggy it was until we got
started.

It is bad, but you can run on the sidewalk all along the front and
sides, and there's not much traffic in the back.

Dynamic stretching -- stretching out the joints and tendons while in
motion.  It's good to do before sprinting.

Hope you're feeling better!
