Food:

* 7:45 (home): 30g Flax Plus Granola, 30g All Bran, 22g whey protein,
1 cup skim milk
* 11:15 (work, brought from home): 1 carton f/f peach yogurt
* 1:30 (work, brought form home): salad w/ 2 cups mixed greens, 2
hard-boiled eggs, 73g grilled chicken, 1/3 cup pineapple, a few chunks
each of broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, tomato, and baby corn, and 2
tbsp f/f red wine vinaigrette dressing
* 4:30 (work, from friend's desktop jar): 3.5 Lifesaver hard candies
(forgot to bring an energy bar for an afternoon snack and I was
starving :-) -- this was a whole 32 calories)
* 6:30 (home): 1 oz. mixed nuts
* 7:45 (home): 150g broiled red snapper; 110g baked sweet potato; 150g
Brussels sprouts; 2 Valentine chocolates

12:00 -- Exercise:  3 mile run/walk -- alternating running for 3 songs
on MP3, walking for 1  {This worked out to probably running 90% of the
distance -- the most outdoor running I've done so far.  I'm sure I
could do the whole thing without stopping if I wanted to, as I can run
much farther on a treadmill, but the outdoor running thing is very new
and I'm just enjoying myself working into it and not stressing about
having to do anything particular.  And it's more challenging than the
treadmill because the route is rather hilly and has some cross-country
patches -- grassy, rocky, etc.  I probably won't get that many
opportunities to do this, as it depends on Ted not being there to walk
with me, me having time, and the weather being okay.  And I won't do
it once it gets too warm out.)

This was a gym day off.  Tomorrow may turn into one too, as it's
supposed to snow a bunch and I'm planning to work from home.

Interesting question. I've always considered it a vegetable, but it does
grow on a tree and has a bunch more calories than your typical vegetable.

It's too bad you aren't feeling well. Have you had allergy trouble in the
past? Or are you sure this is the typical cold?

Get well soon. And congrats on continued weight loss.

Thanks, Matt, on both counts.  There's something going around here that's
really hitting respiratory systems hard; I've got it too.  I also have
moderate COPD (and stopped smoking 7 months ago), so it hits me kind of
hard.  I've actually been fighting it off for 3 weeks now, but this last
week got worse. I think it's starting to break up though, as today felt
better.  I'm looking forward to working out again as I know, given the time
off, performance will be improved.

Hey, how is oatmeal with butter in it?

My mom always gave it to us with butter & brown sugar.  It was wonderful.

But I don't miss it at all now  :-)  Seems so much nicer with apple and
cinnamon.

We always had it with butter and maple syrup.  Protein powder and soy milk
work fine these days.

<Hey, how is oatmeal with butter in it?

I like butter in it lots. I too grew up on oatmeal w/ butter and brown
sugar. I only use butter from time to time now, and try to go with honey,
cinnamon, raisins, and a splash of soy milk.

I was, however, thinking the other day that I should try other
breafast/cereal grains.  Not sure what else to try! I loved Malt-o-Meal as a
kid, but I would need to read the label to know if it's a healthy food or
not.

What do you put in your oatmeal?

I like Wheatena - tastes nutty, very nice with cranberries or blueberries
and a little orange zest.  It's nothing like Cream of Wheat.

We also have something here in Maine called Maltex.  My 70+ yo neighbor
has had it for breakfast every day of his life except for the time he was
in the Army.  It's getting harder to find.

Dried fruit, fresh fruit, applesauce, peanut butter, LF cheese, milk, LF
sour cream, yogurt, cinnamon, nutmeg, garlic, salt, pepper, etc. Not all at
once of course :)

I guess the only thing I haven't mixed with oatmeal is vegetables. Maybe
I'll try leftover sweet potatoes tommorrow. It's is a good base for a lot of
different flavors. And sometimes I just eat it plain.

Sweet potatoes sound good.  Sometimes I like roasted butternut squash and
apple in oatmeal.  A little pumpkin pie spice is good with that.
