Antibiotics and weight gain?

Seems I remember hearing or reading something about weight gain when taking
antibiotics.  This is day 3 for me on the drugs, and the scale is moving up,
up, up!  I'm really, really not concerned about this because I know that, in
a lifetime of fitness, there will be times one can not exercise and times
when one gains weight and there's no changing it.  What does matter to me is
getting better and having understanding.  So, is weight gain to be expected
when taking antibiotics?

Well some farmers will add antibiotics to animal feed to make their
animals gain weight. Its said that this kills off bacteria in the
stomach lining so that the food is better absorbed, so it might be the
same in humans. But if you are taking antibiotics for some bug you
have, then think about it,  you DO need better nutrient absorbsion from
your foods to fight off whatever you have, so I think in the end it
will all be ok when you get thru with your dosage. The body has a way
of healing and leveling out again so stay the course by continuing to
eat as healthy as possible and exercise if you are able to depending on
why you are taking the antibiotics in the first place. Be sure and
drink lots of water to help cleanse away the bad bacteria in your
system as you get better too :-)

My medical villain is Prednisone. that really put weight on me and
crashed my immune system five years ago.

I know a few people who have had major problems due to Prednisone and
honestly I'd have to think long and hard before ever taking it.  My cat
became temporarily diabetic due to it.
