I can definitely see that. The place I golf most is very wooded and hilly.
Keep in mind that last summer was my first one really golfing on courses on
a regular basis as opposed to the year before when I stuck mainly to the
driving range and only went out a few times. And I also wouldn't consider a
5 mile walk in 4 hours to be exercise but even using a cart most "calories
burned" websites estimates golf to burn approx 300 cal/hr.

I started out as an exerciser looking for another workout instead of a
golfer looking to relax :) I don't golf nearly well enough to relieve
anyone of cash...yet. My only "strength" as a beginner is that I have a
killer drive and if my rotator cuff holds out I could feasibly make a 300
yard drive sometime in the near future which is not bad for a middle aged
novice chick. Guys like having me on their team for a scramble. Maybe I
should pull my clubs instead of carrying them and see if it improves my game
;).

I doubt we'll be open in 6 weeks since there's still too much snow on the
ground but there's always a chance. This will be the first year I have a
membership at a club. I was a 6:30 AM regular last year and plan to keep it
going this year - 9 holes before work each day plus at least one league.
I have a tee time 2 weeks from Sunday - we're going someplace warm for
vacation!

Best of luck breaking that 80!! I think my handicap is somewhere around 80
(LOL).

You'll never take a vacation again without bringing your sticks
along.

There is nothing like those first couple of years after you take up
golf. It gets you hooked because most people will improve a lot once
they start playing it regularly. Its nice being a member of a club
because you get those much sought after weekend morning tee times,
allowing you to still have most of the day for other things.
I'm exercising daily now, but if it wasn't for my frequent rounds of
golf the last two years, I would have probably gotten a lot larger
than I did. Of course, that smokey and beers at the turn didn't help
much, not to mention the cigars. It will be interesting to see how I
golf this year, I'm hoping that being in shape will translate to at
least a marginal improvement.

The women I golf with in league refer to it as "aiming fluid."

The course I'm playing on rents out full set of Calloways.

Because I do a lot of solo golfing, the place I frequent (and now belong)
squeezes me in pretty much anytime I want unless the course is closed due to
a special event. My in-laws have been members for decades. It helps to
know people!

I think you should see some improvement because if anything you might get
some speed increase in your swing. I found losing weight cause less
impediment to my swing - not as much body in the way :)
