Hi y'all,
Since starting my new WOE January 2nd, I have noticed that I feel cold a lot
more, particularly my feet. I know it's the middle of winter, but I was
wondering if this could somehow be related to my new WOE. I'm eating low
fat/low cal. I've lost 18lbs to date, doubtfully enough to notice a
temperature difference. But the constant cold feeling seems to correspond
to the same time I started my new WOE. Right now I have on a thick pair of
socks and three pairs of knitted slippers and my feet are still freezing!
Another thing I was wondering about is my skin. When I was a teenager/young
adult I had acne. I went on Accutane and was acne free for about 5 years.
Then my skin started up again. A friend of mine has suggested that I might
have a food allergy/allergies that could be causing it. Has anyone else
heard of this?

Being cold due to calorie restriction is a natural adaptation that
conserves energy. There is nothing wrong or unnatural with what you
are experiencing. Also, this means that you may spend less calories
per day than calorie calculators (calibrated for people who are not
dieting) would suggest.

If I undereat for a few days I get very cold. OTOH if I have a day where I
eat more than normal I end up sweating all night.

Yes, I've heard of acne being related to food allergies, but first make sure
it isn't hormonal - more common among post adolescent women.

Well, I lost the majority of my weight during the summer so I was nearly
at goal by the time the weather cooled but I can say that I was never
cold before I became thin.
I lived the entire winter in T-shirts and never needed more than a
windbloc fleece jacket. I now have 2 down parkas and a down snowsuit.
Interestingly, I've found the nice stretchy yoga pants from Old Navy to
be warmer than sweatpants around the house. I bought flannel sheets too.
Exercise always warms me up.

Everything she said! I used to be warm all the time when I was fat --
especially after the onset of menopause -- and now I'm almost always
cold. Exercise warms me up too.

Me too! We've just moved into a brand new state of the art temperature
controlled office block and I have not yet managed a day without puttin on
my massive aran cardigan and I still need to keep running to the loo to put
my hands under warm water!

I too have been much more sensitive to cold. I regard it as a side effect
of an effective diet. This is a good thing.
Also, body fat is an insulator against heat loss. When I was over 300, I
often ignored wearing a jacket outside in cold weather.

Ditto. In November, I bought a winter coat for the first time in 10
years. Exercising also warms me up, but I need to be careful to warm up
for 10 minutes before starting an intensive workout.
As always, YMMV.

I've been messed up with temperatures for quite awhile. I've gotten
colder over the years even though I have also gained weight over the
years. I used to wear shorts in the summer when sleeping, and no
socks.
A few years ago, I got so cold in summer that I had to get up and add
sweatpants and a sweatshirt over a t-shirt and spandex leggings. I
haven't worn shorts to bed in at least 5 years - just too cold. Nor
can I sleep without socks. And I have a heated waterbed and blankets.
I blamed the problem on my dying heater in the waterbed, but that was
replaced last year. I don't need double layers anymore, but I still
wear a long sleeve shirt and sweatpants to bed. And I sometimes run my
portable heater before bed because I am cold. And I wear a sweater or
robe around the house most of the time.
But strangely, as cold as I am at home all the time, I am fine at
work. I am actually the only one in my department who does not wear a
sweater. I have worked there 16 years, and I wore a sweater only one
winter, during a remodel when our heat wasn't working. Even today,
everybody else was wearing a sweater. I was fine in short sleeves.
But come home, and I am wearing a robe because I am cold.

Well at least I know I'm not the only one shivering my way to thin! I guess
I'll need to buy some warmer clothing. Aw darn ;o)
