My plan is to post monthly updates on my 2005 resolutions and goals --
more of that accountability thing :-).  I'm a little late posting this
month, since I was out of town last week.

I have set both resolutions -- things I could control -- and goals --
things I hope to attain.

Resolutions:

* 1.  Maintain my weight in the range of 130-140 lbs.  (This is lower
than the 135-145 that I've been posting.  I find I really don't want
to go above 140.  I'm not really wanting to get down to 130, either --
I like the mid to upper 130s just fine, but I may cut a little for a
bench competition to compete in the 132 lb. class.)

- So far, so good.  I was at 134 this afternoon.

* 2.  Continue my training schedule of 5x/week at the gym, despite
Tom's going away.  (This is subject to work and travel obligations.)

- I trained all the planned days that I was in town, except one day
when I was snowed in.  I could have done a bit more when I was out of
town, particularly strength training.  But I'm pretty satisfied.

* 3.  Continue taking lunchtime walks most days of the week that I'm
in the office.  (This is subject to work demands and weather.)

- I walked all the days that weather and work permitted, which was
most days that I was at the office.  And I have started doing some
running on days Ted isn't there, which pleases me.

* 4.  Compete at least once in Olympic lifting and once in bench.

- None yet. I don't know how likely this is to happen.  Maybe in the
fall.  I'm not really training bench properly right now.  And when it
comes to OL, Ahmed has gone off on an extended trip back home to
Egypt, and it's unlikely I'll do it without him pushing me.

* 5.  Run in a 5K race.  (I hesitate to use the word "compete" here
:-) .)

- None yet.

* 6.  Limit clothing/accessories spending to $100/month (ideally less)
averaged over the year.  I've needed all new clothes this year, but
have bought far too many, since it's so much fun :-).  I will need
some new things for the spring/summer, I think, but not too many.

- I spent $118.64.  While this is over my limit, I decided that I
would allow myself a monthly average of $100, and my monthly average
for the two months is $99.48 :-).

* 7.  Limit Diet Pepsi consumption to 3 bottles/day.

- I've not done so well here.  I sort of fell off the wagon when
visiting my mom and while in NJ.  I think I want it more when I'm
bored.  I'm trying to get back to this now that I'm home for a while.

* 8.  Take my vitamins and supplements regularly.  (I'm not too crazy
about pills and tend to slack off.)

- Not bad -- missed a few days.  (And when traveling I don't take
everything with me, so I took less then, but I took what I intended.)

* 9.  Use body moisturizer every night.  (Something else I tend to not
want to slack off on, but should do -- hoping that it might help
improve skin tone.)

- Didn't even take any with me on either trip -- and I should have.
I've been backsliding a bit -- need to improve.

* 10.  Wear a little more makeup, and wear jewelry more often.

Probably less than last month, but a little more than in the past.
Jewelry is more fun; I have a hard time getting motivated to do
makeup.

Goals:

* 1.  Bench my body weight.  (This is very close.  Ideally I'd like to
do it in competition, but competition bench requires a pause at the
bottom and that's harder.  And I'm not sure how well I'll do with
serious bench training without Tom here.)

- This isn't gonna happen unless I start benching with the bar again
:-).  I've just been doing DBs since Tom left.

* 2.  Do one unassisted pull-up or chin-up.  (I mostly do chins, so it
will probably be that.)  (This may be attainable if I work on it.)

- I'm very slowly continuing to get a little stronger.

* 3.  Snatch 35 kilos, and clean and jerk 45 kilos.  (These are
probably both ambitious.  My current best snatch at this bodyweight is
27.5, but what's keeping me from doing more weight is more form issues
and fear of reinjuring my shoulder than it is lack of strength.  I can
clean 45 or more now, but my best jerk lately has been 40.  This has
also been limited by my shoulder issues.  Both of these lifts -- if I
were able to do them in competition -- would beat the current world
records for women in my age/weight class.  But there aren't a whole
lot of older women competing in this sport, and a new one could come
along any time and blast through all the records.)

- I haven't yet improved on the 27.5 and the 40, but they're stronger
and more consistent.

* 4.  Be able to run 5K in 30 minutes on the treadmill.  (Currently
this would probably take me about 36 minutes.  I'm not a very fast
runner.)  (I'm using the treadmill rather than an outdoor race here
since it's what I do, and I don't have any idea what I could do in a
real race.)

- Did a 5K run one day in 33.82 minutes, by alternating 1 minute at
6.2 (the pace I will need to do for 30 minutes to achieve this goal)
and 1 minute at 4.8.  This was kind of hard; I'm a long way from doing
6.2 for 30 minutes straight.

I enjoyed reading this, Chris! You have done so great on your many and
varied goals! We have some goals in common and it reminds me to pay more
attention to some of those!

Thanks, Mary!  At least I'm sticking to the important ones.  I'm not
gonna beat myself up too much over inadquate progress at learning to
use makeup :-).
