In September '04 my oldest brother , age 62 had a fatal heart attack. This
event shocked me so much (and still does) that I realized I needed to change
my life style.  I weighed 270 lbs at that time. I needed to change my life.
After a year I have dropped to 180 lbs and have been doing cardio and weight
exercises. I endorse the South Beach Diet. It works for me.

September '04 or September 03?

Sorry about your brothers loss, but I'm glad to hear it got you into a good
mindset to lose weight and find health.

But, if you dropped 90lbs since September 04, that is only 6 months.  That's
15lbs a month, a pretty good rate.  Either way, my hats off to you for
losing the weight and getting down to a more healthy weight.   I also hope
you have kept up with your physicals and bloodwork and are watching your
eating now and concentrating on your cholesterol levels as well as blood
pressure and other health stuff.   Good luck you you.

My mistake, Tom died in Sept '03. I started my diet in Feb'04.
At age 53 I needed to know where I was health wise so I went to my local Doc
and had a complete exam. Blood work, colonoscopy, echo, treadmill, MRI.  I
was scared. All  my blood work comes out great . My hdl and glucose is
perfectly normal. I am 6' tall and weight 181 lbs. I just had the MRI done
today...(which is a Star-Wars kinda experience). reason for the MRI was
because I have been having this "detached" episodes that I feel no sensation
at all .  Lasts about an hour and are random. weird stuff.
Anyway....My weight was 270 on Feb 15 2004...it is now 180 on March 15 2005.
I owe it all to the principles of the South Beach Diet.

I'm glad to hear you found a solid way of eating (woe) that works well for
you.  The principles behind SBD's nutrition is pretty good.   I hope your
MRI comes back with positive results and nothing serious wrong.

Good luck to you

Good for you Jim, I am delighted. I had a neck biopsy today, hopefully
everything will come out fine.

It is IN my neck, but yes, it is something. Most likely nothing serious.
