What do you use?  I'm thinking of making my own - I don't like the sugar
content of the "lite" versions at the supermarket.

Here's my recipe so far:
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp grey poupon
1 tsp garlic powder
herbs and spices

I tried this last night and it was great.  DietPower says 134 calories per
serving.   Any suggestions?  Thanks!

It looks good if you are eating it all at once. I doubt it would store well
because of the relatively low oil content. And since the oil makes up most
of the caloric content I'm sure it is low for a reason.

Why does oil make a difference in how well salad dressing would store?
I've not noticed any difference in longevity of commercial dressings
between fat-free and regular.  And all the ingredients in this recipe
are things that keep for ages.

I would think it would be the exact opposite. I have a few homemade
flavored vinegars I made a while ago and those things can last nearly
forever.

Things with oil don't last as long. For example, be careful with
flavored oils; use them up quickly.

The oil and vinegar will seperate but the dressing could still be used.

I'm not sure why a greater proportion of oil would make the dressing
less likely to separate.  But in any event, all you'd have to do was
shake it up.

Well, the recipe makes 1 serving so there's no need to keep it.  I did
adjust the proportions upward and put it in a small lidded glass jar.  As
Chris said, give it a good shake and it's set to go.  I'm eating a salad
every day, whether lunch or dinner, so the dressing will be used fairly
rapidly.

Your recipe sounds really good, I'll have to try it. Red or white wine
vinegar, olive oil, garlic and herbs is good, too.

Wine vinegar ... ah, I'm going to try it with champagne vinegar - less tart.
Thanks!

I've seen those, but not in my local store.  Pretty sure the nearest Whole
Foods carries them.  Thanks for the idea, will go check them out.
