anyone else do this? i was talking to my mom today and she says
she serves her plate, and then puts half of what she's served
herself into a container and saves it for her next meal. so far
she's lost something like 20 lbs (don't know the time frame,
tho).

"Mr. Lancaster" as you call him is soooo full
of donkey doo that it isn't funny. Seeking
his advice is akin to saying "lie to me".

I have never heard of anyone do this, but there does not seem to be
any harm from what your mom is doing...

The first advice the nutritionist gave me was to cut my portions in
half. And when I'm eating out with friends and/or family and having
dessert, I split it with one of my companions.
As always, YMMV.

Maybe not in quite the same way, but when I first changed my WOE I did it
by simply eating half as much as I had before. It worked very well and I
adjusted it as I learned more about what foods I *should* be eating.
I still eat supper served on a luncheon plate.

It took me some work to understand what a real "portion" is, as opposed to
how much I used to eat. I can't cut my portions in half now, because I'm
getting correct amounts. A great example is that I used to just have "a
slice of ham." Now I weight the sucker and make sure it's 3-4 oz, depending
on my day's needs.
Whatever works, keeps a person feeling good and staying positive is the
right deal!

Well, I wouldn't normally do it for a meal at home, since I prepare
the size of portion I want to eat. But I often do it at restaurants
with my entree. Tonight, for example, I went to an Indian restaurant
and ordered Tandoori salmon. I ate half of the salmon -- and all of
the veggies -- and brought the rest of the salmon home. (The waiter
took it away to box up, and I think he put in the big serving of rice
as well, but I doubt I'll eat that.)

I think that's a great idea. Whatever works. Last night when I made myself
dinner, I thought of this post, and set aside half the meal - and guess
what, I was satisfied with half because I wasn't looking at the whole thing.
