so far I'm liking the new bike a bit more with every ride.   Last week I
broke 20mph, although only briefly.   Today I broke 20 and maintained
22.2mph for over a mile.  My cruising speed was 17 - 18mph with the wind at
my back and 12 w/ the headwind.

But I'm pretty pumped that I can get over 20 mph out of this thing.  And, I
didn't outpower this bike, it outpowered me.  I slowed down due to my own
fatigue.  :)

WTG!  I just know you're going to want a road bike soon<G>

DH and I discussed this last week.  Although I'm not sure.   Yeah, I'll like
the speed of a road bike but then there are the comfort features of this
hybrid I like alot - certainly the shock system is great.   For me, on the
mountain bike I have, by the end of a 15 mile street ride, as I'm hitting
those stress/weather cracks in the street or the Florida drainage curbs,
every bone in my body feels like its being jarred to the hilt.   But on the
hybrid, even after a 20+ mile ride those bumps are a breeze.   Going to a
street bike I'll lose that comfort again and go back to a much ruffer ride.

Who knows - I'll give it a year or so.  As DS gets older and doesn't like to
hang w/ mom and SD any longer, then I'll have more freedom for the longer
rides and maybe my views will change.

Awesome!

I have good news too. I didn't like the skates I bought, so I decided
to sell them and keep looking. Well, a great pair showed up on
craigslist yesterday, so I replied, offered a lower price, and got
them.

I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but they fit perfectly. Large
wheels and *real* speed bearings like my nephew's skates. I could feel
they were a ton smoother when I tested them on the sidewalk.

Now I will be able to skate farther and faster (more fun), and my
nephew will get a workout too. I'll have to start timing our trips now
to figure out our average speed. Once we get fast enough, my dad will
come biking with us. He is doing pretty well for his age (he's pretty
active), but he has nobody to bike with. My mom is very overweight and
cannot bike. And my nephew and I do not like to bike.

Just praying it stays dry tonight and tomorrow morning. We had great
sunny weather, but the rain started early this morning. We got up at
10am to get in a good skate before I had to go to work. But it was
raining. It will probably rain tomorrow too, but I will get up and
look, just in case. Otherwise, we have to wait until at least Friday.
He's in school, and I work evenings, so our schedules do not match.

The right equipment makes all the difference in the world.

I've realized recently that I'm outgrowing my skis. They don't have
enough muscle to get me down the steeper, less groomed slopes I'm doing
now. They were great while I was learning, but I need stiffer ones now.
So, next year I'll be shopping for a new pair. They're expensive, so
it'll take me all sumemr to save up for them.

The fastest (recorded on the computer) I've done on my bike is 42mph. Mind
you, it was downhill with a tailwind ;-)

You have more nerve than I do.  The only thing I could think of the day I
got the road bike up to around 30 on a downhill was the awful road rash I
would have if I took a spill<G>

Possibly more madness on that particular day. It was a gloriously sunny day,
warm, hardly any wind, wide, sweeping road & hardly any traffic. *Bliss*

I'll have to give it another try this year.  The hill is near my home
and can be quite busy but Sunday mornings are usually a good time to
hit the roads around here as there is less traffic.  At the time I had
only had the bike a month so I wasn't real comfortable with it.  After
riding hybrids for years I finally bought a road bike last summer.
I'll just make sure I'm wearing long pants and sleeves<g>  If it
wouldn't look silly as hell I'd dig out the old leather I wore on the
motorcycle.

I was a reluctant convert to road bikes after always having the equivalent
of a hybrid with flat bars. It took me a long time to get used to drops, but
now I'd not willingly go back to flat bars. I've got a tourer and a racer.
The 42mph was achieved on the tourer. It's a fair bit heavier than my race
bike due to all the additions to it.

As for long pants - I always do - I won't willingly inflict the sight of my
bare flesh on the populace ;-)
