Hi,
Those of you that use fitday.com, do you count sugar alcohols in
with the regular carbohydrates?  When I was doing Atkins, we didn't
count these.  I think diabetics have to, though.  What do you do?

I enter them as 'alcohol'. I have a formula in Excel where I enter the
total number of calories and the grams of fat, protein and 'real'
carbohydrates; the formula multiplies the grams of 'real' carbs and
protein  by 4 and the grams of fat by 9, adds them up and subtracts
those calories from the total number. Then it divides the result by 7
(there are 7 kCal in 1 g of alcohol), and I enter the result in Fitday
as alcohol.

Now I'm not doing Atkins anymore, but I still have the formula, and I
still use it to enter custom foods.

What program do you use?  Usually I just add the Sugar Alcohols as reg
carbs.  Try not to eat a lot of them, but on "THE" holiday I usually
allow an unplanned splurge or two.

Ohhhh, you're really close to goal!  Good for you!!!  Keep up the good
work.

I'm not sure I understand the question. I use Excel to calculate the
'alcohol', and I enter the results in Fitday. Or do you mean what
weightloss program? I'm not on any special program anymore, I just limit
my calories; but I still eat low(ish)-carb: no potatoes, rice, pasta,
etc., and bread 1-2 slices max, and not every day. I eat a lot of
veggies, 2 pieces of fruit a day, chicken (breast, livers), fish,
shrimp, quorn (meat replacement based on some kind of fungus); read meat
only occasionally.

I *am* getting close to goal, and I'm really happy about it! :-)  I'm
already normal weight/waist size, according to all the tables; and I
look (and feel) very much better than I used to. I'm especially happy
that I don't have a fat face anymore. :-) Tomorrow my father, sisters
and brother are coming for a visit with their families, and they haven't
seen me since January; they won't believe their eyes! :-)

Sorry for the confusion, I meant software program.

Yep, had a patient the other day that weighted about #115.  They were
too skinny and had trouble gaining weight (just as serious a problem),
and we got to joking that I had been carrying them around and lost
them.  Guess you had to be there.  It's amazing that you could carry
that much weight and still get around.  :)

I do not eat them, but if I did, I would count them as carbohydrates,
which they are. The books that tell us not to count them, usually also
promote these things to make money for the authors.
