discouraging start

Here I sit all broken hearted, had to exercise but barely started.

After 8 weeks off because of an auto accident I went back to the gym. Oh my
God, it was like starting all over. I could only lift half the weights I did
before and couldn't wait to get off the treadmill. I haven't been away from
exercise for this long since I lost weight 4 years ago. I have gain weight
and can't get into some of my clothes. I went to the gym with my exercise
clothes on and when I left, I  put on a pair of pants that fit before I had
the accident and could hardly get the zipper up. It would have been very
embarrassing if I had to walk out of the gym with my zipper half way down.
I will have to work really hard to get back to where I was before. This is
sooo depressing. Lesson learned for anyone thinking about stopping exercise
without a good excuse, don't, it is too hard to get back into doing it
again. I know it will get better, but damn this is discouraging.

Start slow so you don't hurt yourself!  You might want to start the same way
you did in the very beginning - I know I first started with just walking for
several weeks before I had the stamina to do a more intensive workout.  And
of course, pay attention to your diet...  It will only be a couple weeks of
consistant activity before you're back to where you were.

you get out of shape quickly, but the upside is that getting back in
shape will be quicker also.

Congrats on getting back into the exercise, Roxan.  Take it easy and I'm
sure you'll find yourself back at your previous level soon.

Thanks everyone, we will see how tomorrow goes. Set backs are not easy, it
pays to keep going.

It'll come back, Roxan!  It's not like you have to *learn* all over, your
body just needs to adjust back into the swing.  Take it a little easier and
try to enjoy it.  When DST changed and I had to move back inside to my
treadmill my body fought it for a few days.  It wasn't harder - just
different.  Now when I'm done and all sweaty, I come up from the basement
and always say aloud "I love my treadmill!" even if it's only to my Newfie.
(she still thinks I'm nuts<g>)

Good luck with getting back to it and congratulations!

Your strength and stamina will come back faster than you think, Roxan.
I once missed about 6-8 weeks of working out due to a vacation
followed by an illness followed by my father's death.  I was a mess
when I got back to the gym but within a couple of weeks I was back on
track.
