Well, I was beginning to think the gym scale just saw me coming and
set itself to 176 lbs. before I ever got on -- every day exactly the
same thing. But today I weighed 175 :-).
Something interesting I realized -- I've now lost 1/3 of my original
bodyweight.

I'm 5'5". I'm also female -- which I'm guessing you are not, given
your height :-). And I'm 55 years old. It has taken me 16 months to
lose 87 pounds -- a much slower rate than yours so far, but steady.
I don't have a set goal weight, but I'll probably decide to stabilize
somewhere between 150 and 165. That may sound heavy for someone my
height, but I have a rather large frame and a lot of muscle. People
don't perceive me as overweight now. (Of course, if I were 25 years
old and had this build it might be different. For my age, I'm
probably a bit below average in clothing size.)

I am a bit taller than you at 5'7" and we have the same starting weight.
my goal weight of 160 is a round about figure, I just wanted a "goal"
when I started - figured -100 lbs was fair.
If it's not exact I am not going to mind.

Congratulations Chris - it's good to see your perseverance paying off.
You certainly aren't one to give up and you deserve all your success.

Thanks, Janice (and others who've replied). Giving up isn't really a
consideration, as I don't plan to stop eating this way ever, or stop
exercising. At some point if I decide I'm at a good maintenance point
I will eat a bit more if needed to avoid continued weight loss, but if
eating what I do now is going to keep me at the same weight, I won't
be unduly disappointed by that. I feel and look pretty good --
especially compared to where I was at 262 lbs. :-).

Congradulations Chris! That is a good achievment. I'm wondering how long
have you been on diet and exercising?
thanks,
tim
P.S. Your diet looks very similar to mine. I'm curious if my progress is as
good as yours.

Hi Tim,
I've been dieting 16 months -- since July, 2002. I've been exercising
for about 5 years -- but mostly weightlifting until I got into losing
weight, and then I added more cardio. I am a pretty serious lifter,
and have done some competing (actually hold the state bench record in
the women's 50-54 198+ class), but I have a shoulder injury that has
held me back this year.
I'm a 55 year old woman (menopausal) with an underactive thyroid
(controlled with meds). These factors may make my weight loss rate
slower than some people's, but I'm happy with it.
