I currently eat betwen 1700 and 2000 calories a day. I am 24, male, 250lb. I
walk for between 2 and 3 hours every day, without fail. I've been on the
diet for 18 months, but its only recently (last 2 months) that I started to
do so much walking whereas previously I was just doing 1 hour per day. I was
losing 2-4lb a week easily when I first started the increase, but its down
to 1-2lb now. Is too much exercise causing my calorie level to fall too low,
ie, should I drop off a little on the walking ?

The closer you get to your goal weight the slower the weight loss. It could
also be that you are eating too few calories for the amount of exercise you
are doing. One to two pounds a week is really a good weight loss to strive
for.

How long have you been stalling? It is normal to experience slowdowns
if they last under 3 weeks.

If you have time to walk 2-3 hours per day, it is wonderful for you.

It sounds like you are doing great.  You don't need to change
anything. Be patient: a pound per week is really good progress: you're
definitely not plateauing (sp??).

Well, ok, one little bit of non-expert advice: walking is great: keep
it up, but you may want to think about adding some kind of resistance
training (Weightlifting, push-ups, etc).  Muscle burns calories, and
with muscle, in my opinion, it's either "use it or lose it".  If you
can add resistance training, or even trim as little as 15 minutes off
your walking to get it in, you'll be doing yourself a lot of good in
the long run.

Keep up the good work

It is normal for your weight loss rate to decrease as you get closer and
closer to your goal weight.  As your weight goes down your RMR decreases
meaning that your calorie deficit also decreases so your weight loss
slows.

Good job.  I'd just suggest walking/exercising an amount you can
maintain the rest of your life.  3 hours is a bit much.  Are you sure
you're counting your calories correctly?

Brad, why do you think that it is a bad idea to walk more during
weight loss? I agree that weight loss is a phase where the person need
to _learn_ to eat and exercise as they would for the rest of their
foreseeable life. But should the quantity not be adjusted?
