We had an excellent day yesterday. I got up early for a two-mile run
(before it got hot). In the late morning we left for a leisurely
drive up to Philadelphia, where we met Nunya B. of ASD and her DH.
Apart from the chance to meet in person (which was great -- she's
really fun and outgoing -- I felt like I'd known her for years), the
big purpose of this get-together was dinner at Morimoto (the
restaurant of the Iron Chef -- www.morimotorestaurant.com). Dinner
was awesome! We had a chef's tasting dinner that consisted of a whole
series of very small, exquisite dishes -- a truly amazing meal.
Since I didn't eat all that moderately the rest of the day -- and
didn't make any attempt to do so at dinner (though it wasn't a
terribly high-calorie meal as feasts go :-)) my calories were rather
high for the day. But it was well worth it.
Food:
* 6:45 (home): 1 bottle Power Ade
* 8:00 (home): 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices
melted f/f cheese
* 11:30 (driving): energy bar
* 1:30 (restaurant): bunless cheeseburger (wrapped in a lettuce leaf);
small salad of mixed greens w/ 1/2 tbsp balsamic vinaigrette
* 2:45 (driving): 1 oz. peanuts
* 6:00 (Morimoto): fatty tuna tartare w/ caviar garnish and some sort
of small oriental fruit; sliced, barely-cooked scallops in hot oil;
small piece of another sort of fish (I forget what), lightly grilled,
with a tiny salad topped with a couple of slivers of dried abalone;
tiny scoop of citrus sorbet; baked halibut w/ Japanese sweet potatoes;
grilled, slice Kobe beef in a marinade; 5 small pieces of various
types of sushi; small but rich chocolate dessert w/ a little scoop of
vanilla miso (IIRC) ice cream; 10 oz. wine {All these were
beautifully served with little garnishes and drizzles of sauces and
such.}
* 11:00 (hotel room): chocolate chip & walnut cookie -- provided by
the hotel at check-in (not that I needed it!)

The restaurant and meal sound great. I agree that Nunya seemed like an old
friend when she visited here last week. I really enjoyed riding the bikes
with her and DH.

We really enjoyed both experiences, the bike ride (and the PB station) with
you and the dinner with Chris and her DH. It's like we'd been old friends
already. I'm looking forward to seeing you all again (and a few others).

I'm glad to hear that she is as nice in person as she is online.

I concur - it was an awesome time and the meal was just impressive. The
atmosphere of the restaurant was also interesting the way the booths kept
changing color.

I think the fish with the salad was some kind of striped sea bass IIRC. It
was all just so yummmm.
