...and I bring good news for myself to the folks here, if'n you remember
me...
ignoramus once told me - and I'm paraphrasing - "you've got to just DO it.
You have to stop finding f.cking excuses and just change your lifestyle."
Well, I did.
A few months ago I stopped drinking soda - of any type, including diet and
caffeine free - and I stopped being a munchie-freak. I also stopped
drinking coffee - instantly all of thye stomach problems I had been having
pretty much just went away, with the occasional flare-up when I slip up and
have the fried cheese and a turkey leg at whatever summer festival. I eat
pretty well - I mean, I'm poor, so a can of beef ravioli from Aldi's
sometimes acts as my dinner - but I eat lots of fresh veggies and good
breads and such. I usually find money for bocaburgers, but then again I
also make a few bucks go pretty far.
It's amazing. I just stopped, and it worked. It was like quitting
smoking - I just "quit" about a year ago, and I had one cigarette around
February on a whim. It sucked. So does soda now. I love that feeling.
So anyhow, I lost about 18 pounds - and I got myself a gym membership a few
weeks ago. I find that I am addicted to exercise, especially that damned
elliptical trainer - and I have been doing 15 minutes with a 5 minute
cooldown. I am trying to shed as much as possible. I was at around 250 a
few months ago - I have gotten it down to 218 right now, and I am looking
forward to losing as much as I can.
I have looked online, and I have done some searches - (brary, bookstore,
etc) - and I am wondering if anyone can give me a good exercise routine, or
where to look for one. I have access to the array of nautilus machines,
several treadmills and elliptical trainers, so variety is great. I want to
tone up and dump the weight I have to spare - I have asthma, but amazingly
enough, I find myself okay after a workout.
Any help is appreciated, and thanks for letting me share this little bit of
sh.t I should have done years ago.

Congratulations on your progress -- sounds great!
Just a quickie: A great site for exercise routine advice is
www.stumptuous.com/weights.html. Don't be put off by the fact that it
is somewhat aimed at a female audience; the advice works just as well
for guys.

Congratulations. I like the way you put it, "I just stopped, and it
worked".

My own thinking is that cardio is wonderful for asthma. I had it as a
child/teen. What helped a lot was that my mom forced me to run several
times a week. It did not cure asthma, as such, but I was strong enough
to breathe through it. It was related to allergy to pollens.

It does not matter terribly much just what exercises you do, as long
as it involves aerobics and strength training, but what does matter is
doing them consistently. Chris's suggestion of the stumptuous site is
great, there are many others as well.
