My girlfriend has been convinced by a "herbal specialist" that all she needs
to do is spend a few thousand dollars on the Herbal Magic weight loss
program and she can be slim again.

I have been desperately looking for information on this "product" in an
effort to convince her that it's all just another weight loss scam.  If
anyone knows of a site where I can find some truth about this company and
it's pressure sales tactics, it would be greatly appreciated.

As long as people believe in "magic" anything, there will be an endless
supply of dildos out there selling snakeoil, and an endless supply of
gullible people to buy it.  No one wants to hear that all it takes is
effort, time, hard work, sacrifice and diligence forever and ever.

There is a sucker born every minute.

I could smell a scam when I visited their website. Here's their list
of ingredients:

http://www.herbalmagicsystems.com//index.cgi?Mode=Catalogue&Product=201

nopal cactus
cellulose
vegetable stearate

That's all. For your information, cellulose is what wood and cotton
are made of. Nopal cactus supposedly has some hypoglycemic properties.

Can you tell us a little about your gf, what is her age/weight/height,
is she generally a sucker, what is her relationship with food etc.

You definitely do not need thousands of $$ to lose weight.

Tell her I have a bridge to sell her.  Or some land in Florida.
Tell her a week's worth of healthy groceries costs about $35
(assuming she cooks from scratch which is always cheapest)
and 52 weeks adds up to $1800.  Throw in two pairs of
cross trainers about $100 each, and a spiffy workout suit,
also about $100, and a membership to Curves $500 a year, all
the gas to and from the gym, and she will be in better financial
and physical shape than if she takes the advice of this weirdo.

If she goes with this guy, in a year it's only her purse that
will be thin.

She also needs to know that if they are promising to cure any
medical condition, they are violating FTC laws unless they
are a drug that is regulated under the FDA rules.  Obesity is
a medical condition.

She also needs to know that if they present testimonials,
she needs to look for the following phrase in their ads:
"results not typical"
That means they can't guarantee she will lose any weight at all.
If that phrase is not there, they are violating FTC regulations.

Send her this.

There is no magic potion that causes weight loss. She is in denial about
what it takes to get the fat off her body. She needs to do some serious
research on weight loss and come to terms that it takes work on her part.
Eat less and move more is not popular but it is what works.

The question is not whether she is right. The question is how to
convince her.
