Does anyone know of a good free online-calorie counter? (other then
Fitday, which I do not like).
I used to use CalorieKing but seems as if they have changed it since I
had used it, I`d prefer not to join anything or sign up for anything - I
don`t need any program set up or anything, I just want to look up the
calorie content of foods that are not packaged and don`t have a
nutrition label. I did search on google but have not found what I`m
looking for yet.

Thank you!!

what is the difference between a "kcal" and a "cal" calorie?   for instance,
2617 kcal calculated for 20 minutes walking a dog.

One calorie is a unit of energy. It is the amount of energy required to
increase the temperature of 1 gram of water.

Calories in food and calories you expend with exercise are actually in units
of thousands of calories. In other words they are actually kilocalories
(kcal). But in the U.S. they usually just abbreviate that as "calories" on
packages, which makes for the confusion.

There is no way on earth anybody is going to expend 2617 kcal for 20 minutes
of walking a dog. Would that it were so! :)

If you weigh what I weigh (103.4 kg) and walk at average speed for 20
minutes that would be about 120 kcals used.

I did just double-check - Calorie King still doesn't require signing up to
use their database. Just go to http://calorieking.com and the search is
right there on the left side.

I like the UI on their search. It's easy to change units and get immediate
results.

I use CalorieKing all the time, and you don't have to sign up to use their
calorie counter.
