Anza - 26 Jan 2006 06:47 GMT Dear Google Groups Public,
I am a northwestern middle school student who is interested in doing a Science Fair project on diet pills, and their effect on the American public and body image.
I am conducting an expirament based on the different opinions on people who have enountered diet pills in their lifes, and in order to get accurate results I must collect information from as many people as possible.
So here's your chance to rant, rave, or speak nuetrally about diet pills and all their effects. I need responses from all different types of people and would greatly appreciate it if you took some time out of your day to help a student in need.
Your names/screen names/emails will be kept confidential, and will not be used in the presentation of my results.
Once again, I would greatly appreciate your inputs. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely, an 8th grade student at MMS.
Willow - 26 Jan 2006 16:11 GMT As a teacher I would tell you to go to the library and do your papers and quit trying to find an easy way out by having us do it for you.
I might also add that if you want to do a research that any decent teacher would accept, you have to cite your sources, not promise to keep them confidential.
Finaly, the last place you want to have an objective opinion sample about diet pills is a diet NG.
C'mon, you can do better than that.

> Dear Google Groups Public, > [quoted text clipped - 20 lines] > Sincerely, > an 8th grade student at MMS. Anza - 26 Jan 2006 22:31 GMT Excuse me, but this is not what I asked for in my post.
I am not 'finding an easy way out', as you put it, I am surveying people as this is a science project, not a research paper.
I am trying to collect information from people all over about their veiws on the subject, not trying to learn about Diet Pills. If I wanted to do that I could easily do that without the help of the Google-Groupers.
So please, if you have nothing important to type to me that might help me in this project, don't waste your time.
My teacher recommended I try Google Groups, as we haven't much time in the project for me to get a lot of opinions.
Maybe your time would be better spent not voicing an opinion on a project you obviously know nothing about.
Thanks!
Anza - 26 Jan 2006 22:36 GMT And the confidentiality was to encourage people to speak up.
This is an 8th grade project.
My teacher would except 'Google Group Diet Support Member' as a citation.

2. Not everyone who posts here does so through Google.
Janie - 26 Jan 2006 22:50 GMT > And the confidentiality was to encourage people to speak up. > > This is an 8th grade project. > > My teacher would except 'Google Group Diet Support Member' as a > citation. Dear Student,
The word is "accept" not "except". Please check your dictionary and learn the difference.
Diet pills = quickly regaining any weight that was lost. When a person stops taking the pills the weight quickly comes back. Some of them are very dangerous, especially for anyone who already has medical problems such as high blood pressure.
Matthew Venhaus - 26 Jan 2006 23:23 GMT > Excuse me, but this is not what I asked for in my post. It is unclear what you are asking for in your original post. What specific data do you wish to gather from those who have "encountered" diet pills? In which diet pills are you interested?
And for my own amusement, how do these data become the basis of an 8th grade science project?

Willow - 27 Jan 2006 06:34 GMT That's the way to get help... by being rude !!

> Excuse me, but this is not what I asked for in my post. > [quoted text clipped - 16 lines] > > Thanks! Anza - 28 Jan 2006 02:15 GMT All I am asking is how people see Diet Pills.
Were their experiences good or bad, and so forth. What brands did they use. Would they recommend them to others.
If we are going to be reduced to point out spelling, which I had overlooked previously because I found the mistake trivial, then I'll remind you Willow, 'finaly' as you put it in your first post, is more commonly spelled 'finally'.
Mr. Venhaus, this became important to an 8th grade science project because I would like to learn about Diet Pills. It has nothing to do with aspirations to take dietary supplements.
And I don't think I'm being rude, I'm just asking for you people to lend a hand to a student in need, instead of beating them up verbally over the internet because they spelled one word incorrectly.
So, Willow, all in all I just don't understand why you think it's your job to give me information that I did not ask for. If my teacher doesn't 'accept' my data, then that's my problem, not yours. This is very unencouraging, for me, as a student, to find that instead of being able to use an engine such as Google Groups for getting data, all I will retreive from the experience are a few insults and critisisms.
Maybe you could tell me how you feel about Diet Pills, instead? Do you find them useful, or a hoax? Have you used them?
Perhaps we could work together, instead of continue to fight a fight that isn't worth dirt?
Ignoramus13653 - 28 Jan 2006 03:14 GMT Anza, for your information, there were not many people in this newsgroup who took diet pills. I can recall only one, and that person is not posting anymore.

Anza - 28 Jan 2006 08:01 GMT See, now that's the kind of information that is helpful.
Thank you, Ignoramus, for your kind and gentle information.

Since you are finding the group unhelpful Anza, I suggest you run along and play elsewhere.

Anza - 28 Jan 2006 17:08 GMT What makes everyone think that just because I'm in 8th grade I'm stupid and ignorant?
Bitter, bitter world.
Magalver - 29 Jan 2006 16:35 GMT To all the critics to Anza's posting:
I'm amazed to see the responses to Anza's e-mail - especially from the suppose-to-be role models of our students. I would say, good for you Anza! Try all the resources you can get. When you get a job one day you will be paid for your effectiveness, not how many hours you spend looking getting the same information from a different, more tim-consuming source. Its how clever you work, not how many hours you work
People, why measure the input and not the output?!
I don't understand why in many instances the rudest people get to deal with the public. - The unfriendly lady behind the information desk - The medical doctor who only cares about his pocket and not really the patients - The teacher who chooses to respond from her/his 'critical parent' part instead of the 'caring parent'. Don't you think you could have handled the situation in a more adult manner? What about giving someone the benefit of the doubt instead of expecting the worst? And to go on being childish about correct spelling etc, it's not your place to give unsolicited advice! How childish can an adult be...?
I think it would have been a more constructive approach to be a mentor in this 8th grader's process rather than a bully.
Shame on you. There I also acted out of my critical parent - which is probably the only language you understand.
They say 'how you see the world is a reflection of who you are inside" - what is your shadow side trying to tell you? Maybe you only had bullies as 'mentors' when you were growing up. Take a break. Go on holiday. Get laid or something. Get over your past. If none of that is a factor, just grow up, will you?
Wendy - 29 Jan 2006 22:39 GMT I don't have a personal experience with diet pills although I have at times considered taking them. When I have been frustrated with my weight loss efforts I have thought maybe I should just take a diet pill. The reasons I haven't are: 1. they are expensive 2 if they really worked everyone would be thin.
I did have two family members that took phen-fen and it worked very well when they took them. When it was no longer available they both gained he weight back and then some. So obviously the pills weren't really much help not to mention dangerous.
Hope this helps.

Willow - 30 Jan 2006 05:47 GMT Anza's post has been posted millions of times on usenet for as long as I can remember. So have post like yours for that matter.
This is a very typical trolling gimmick, it's not even funny anymore.
If you both are not trolls, sorry, but hey, if it smells like a dog, barks like a dog, bites like at dog, I call it a dog, until I see proof to the contrary
This being said I love my dog, I just don't try to have civilised conversation with her any time of the day.
:o) have a wonderful love and joy filled evening.

Thank you for your kind e-mail. Maybe I'm too naive about these kinds of things... If it is a 'dog' then I'm not going to waste any more energy giving input on the matter. Let me get out of this 'room'.
I love my dog too. rgds, Yolanda
Patricia Heil - 27 Jan 2006 01:08 GMT > Dear Google Groups Public, > [quoted text clipped - 20 lines] > Sincerely, > an 8th grade student at MMS. First, get a dictionary and proofread your spelling. That may sound harsh but you are never going to get anywhere if you can't spell correctly. It's embarrassing to anybody who hires you.
Second forget diet pills.
