Not too long ago there was a discussion about the House Brand shirataki
noodles (http://www.house-foods.com/). I was not able to locate these
locally but I did get some via the web. They were very good and looked
like regular pasta. I mostly served them in a broth and I enjoyed them
enough to order more. I continued to check Asian markets for shirataki
though, and I was able to find some JFC shirataki at Grand Asia Market
in Cary, NC. They were about $1.50 for a 7 ounce pouch of noodles. The
nutritional information for the entire bag is:
JFC (7 oz)
Calories: 23
Carbs: 5
Fiber: 0
Fat 0
Sodium 0
Protein: 0
House Tofu Shirataki (8 oz)
Calories: 40
Carbs: 6
Fiber: 4
Sodium: 30
Fat: 1
Protein: 2
They tasted fine but they were grayish in color rather than
putty-colored like semolina-based Italian pastas.
As you can see, there is no actually nutrition in the JFC shirataki,
however, if you were looking for a soup noodle that was not calorically
dense, they would be a good option. If you are looking for a
pasta-replacement for Alfredo or marinara sauce, however, the tofu
shirataki would probably be a better choice.

Thanks for the info. One of our local grocery managers is looking into
getting the House brand tofu shirataki in the store. :)
