Hi,

I hit 352 this morning. My mini goal is 350, which will probably be
reached next week. I need to set a new mini goal. Should I set it at
300, or higher?

I tried following the suggestion of a number of people both here on ASD
and elsewhere that I increase my calorie limit in an effort to slow down
my weight loss. All that it appears I've accomplished by increasing the
caloric limit from 2200 to 2500 is that I've gone over the limit three
times. I feel I am being drawn back to my old eating habits. So I am
going to drop back down to 2200.

BTW, the following quotation was a Valentine from a troll on the chess
groups. I am thinking of adding  as a signature line:

"People weighing 400+lbs should almost certainly get out more, otherwise
they don't live long. I would hate to miss Neil's contributions to chess
merely because he croaked before he could make any."

i try not to go over my bmr and use calories from exercise to take the
weight off...for example i end at -500 calories from what i need to
maintain with no exercise and add 800 calories used from a long
walk...1300 calories or a pound lost in 3-4 days...bmr changes with
weight and age

Oh wise 'nkd_one', what does "bmr" mean?

I'm not nkd_one, but anyway it stands for basal metabolic rate -- how
many calories your body burns just to stay alive and sustain normal
bodily functions (i.e., in the absence of exercise).  You can read
more about it, and find a BMR calculator, here:

That's the first I've heard about a mini goal but I get the idea.

If you mini-goal 25 lbs at a time you'll arrive at your 200lbs mini-goal
and main goal at the say time!???

Wasn't that a lovely thought? Here's another set of friendship tokens:

"You want to insult somebody or some squarely before big dinner. Maybe
that magnify your appetite? Be careful. Do you like to eat? Too bow meat
could have influence on your weight. You know how do you like! Please
take care about that. Somebody could compare you with some domestic
animal. Sorry, This is a bit rude joke."

Neil way to go - I recently just got undet 350 as well and it feels
great since I was over 425 last year.  I use to leave in Cleveland, but
now am further south in Ohio.  Wish you the best.

Thanks G. R., I enjoy your blog very much. It's odd to get a compliment
from you, since I think your accomplishment is far greater than mine.
"I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!"

I sent you emails suggesting two more 'heroes' for your collection of
big losers:

....but it doesn't appear you received them.

Best wishes for your continued success - in all things,

You've made wonderful progress.  Congratulations!

Personally I would choose 325 as my next goal.  It's often a boost to
see goals met more frequently.

Dropping back to the 2200 calories seems like a good move if you've
been struggling with occasional overeating on the higher calorie level.
Did the higher level slow down the weight loss?

Not really. And anything that approaches my old way of eating is a step
backwards in my book. After all, this isn't just about losing weight,
but improving myself - building the better Neil. 2200 is about right for
a 40 year old 200 pound man, which is what I will be when I am done.

325 is a good goal, and it nicely coincides with my next trip to
Cleveland (mid-May). Thanks for the suggestion.
