Thanks for the support, everyone! Yeah, it does feel great to know that
I'm on the right side of 200, finally. I didn't know if I could actually
get to this point when I started. I do believe that all the support,
encouragement, and no nonsense advice I've found on asd is one of the
reasons I'm where I'm at now.

So, a really big thanks to all of you!

Anybody remember the old joke of someone standing on a talking scale and

Whenever I stand on my scale I'm glad it doesn't talk.

Thats incredible.  I give you alot of credit.  I fight with 25 lbs. All
I need is 25 lbs off by June.  And I feel as if it is so hard to lose.
Dieting is horrible and when you are facing over 100 lbs, it must be so
difficult to stay focused and keep the will power strong.  I can't even
do it with this stupid 20 lbs.  HOW THE HELL DO YOU DO IT???

Well, Maggie, you gotta reevaluate what you are doing and make some changes
I suppose. If what you are doing now isn't working, then it's time for a
change...

I'm sure someone on ASD could give you some input if you want to lay out
your current plan. One of us may have some suggestions to tweak your journey
to one of better success.

I am extremely active, I don't think I eat too often or too much, I
have a healthy diet.  I started to gain weight right after menopause,
and can't get it off.  I have had personal trainers, I've tried weight
watchers, I even tried Nutrisystem.  I have a picture of myself hanging
up in my office when I was in my forties. I looked damn good.  It is
not giving me any incentive, its just getting me depressed.   I think I
need to keep a journal.  I don't count calories and really do not keep
track of what I eat.  I try to exercise at least 3 times a week at the
gym.  Aerobics and free weights.  I don't expect to look 25 again, but
I feel better when I am slim. I do not have delusions of being in my
50's and looking like a young girl.  I'm not nuts.
I have no clue what I am doing to keep this weight on. I stopped
gaining a few years ago and maintain the same weight. I guess I have
maintained this weight for about 4 years now.  I'm tall so it doesn't
really look that horrible. Its lovely to maintain FAT!!!!!   Now that
my daughter is getting married I am going crazy trying to lose the
weight. But it just seems that I stay at this weight no matter what I
do.

Actually, I know some women in their 40's and 50's who do have figures
of young girls. (I would confise them for 20 year olds if I saw them
from behind if I did not know them). So, it is possible to have a youthful
figure.

I am sorry, is it perhaps possible that you have a weight goal that is
too ambitious? What is your weight and height?

I have this experience on occasion, especially when wearing a more
youthful outfit, like jeans and a snug sweater -- young guys will come
up from behind and turn their heads to look at me with obvious
interest, then glance away in embarrassment when they see a mid-50s
woman :-).

I have extra weight but I do not look my age.  No one thinks I am in my
fifties.  I have seen some of my friends lose weight and age terribly.
Sometimes I think it will be a trade off if I get thin now.  I really
do think I will age.   So I go back and forth with..."Do I want to look
young, or do I want to lose the weight."   It sucks getting older.
Your skin does not have the elasticity it had when you were young and
the weight loss really makes some people age 10 years. I use weights
alot, trying to prevent the sagging skin which will occur...but I can't
find any FACE WEIGHTS!!!!!!   And I would never have plastic surgery.

Most people think I am in my early forties.  But I AM OVERWEIGHT.   So
I am an overweight mid fifties woman who looks in her early forties.
And there is no way around this predicament that I know.
I know I will look older if I start to drop the weight.  Gravity is not
our friend. ;-)  Sometimes I think I subconsciously want to keep the
weight on. Who the hell knows. My name is not Sigmund.
This is a page of some random pics of myself since I gained the weight.
I know I will look 60 if I get down to the weight I was before
menopause struck with a vengence. Forget that picture in the Red
Hat......I was running the hospital gift shop and had to pose for the
RED HAT SOCIETY for women over 50.   I know I need to lose weight
because I don't feel comfortable but being this age, I also know my
skin will not go along with the weight loss.

I was in my early fifties when I lost 40 pounds and it didn't make me look
older.  I'm now 63 and many people assume I'm in my early 50's.  Losing
weight often makes us look younger :)

I think 'fit' would be a nice replacement for 'fat' :)

I've found that losing the weight has made me feel younger.  I doubt I would
feel like biking as much if I were still carrying those extra pounds.

Agreed.

I am intrigued with the idea of looking younger. I've never seen myself
thin, so I have no idea what I will look like. Aside from dashingly
handsome in a general sense, of course. :-)

Try female, fair, fat, and forty.  That's what my doctor said to me about my
gallbladder problems.  Luckily, I didn't need surgery.

I'd rather not, thank you very much - I am content to remain a man,
despite the many faults of our gender. I have enough problems with my
weight loss without adding surgery to change my sex.

You bet it is!  I'm looking forward to it actually.  This will be the first

And Nunya is another person who definitely looks younger than her
years.  I can't say whether she looks younger than before she lost
weight, having only met her afterward, but I can't believe it made her
look any older!

Having met Beverly, I can attest to the fact that she looks much
younger than she claims to be :-).  I lost weight (130 lbs.) in my
mid-fifties, and I also don't feel it made me look any older.  Many
people have told me I look much younger since I lost weight.  I
certainly feel a lot younger!

I agree with you regarding plastic surgery. I would never go under the
knife. I would however try a procedure like Thermage. I just think it is
tough to regain any type of normalcy after losing a lot of weight. I am
definitely going to do some more research but I found a few articles
talking about Thermage and it looks good to me, and it might be a choice
to many like myself who would never even consider going under the knife.

I've had similar experiences out on the bike trails.  It's really hard to
determine age when you approach someone in bike clothing, helmet and sun
glasses.  I often detect a little bit of surprise when I remove the helmet
and sunglasses and the conversation quickly turns to my road bike :)

I got rid of my motorcycle (dirt bike)  about 20 years ago.  I never had the

Maggie, I lost 130 lbs. after menopause.  I think counting calories
was an important part of my success, and I still count calories during
maintenance.  I know I had to find the calorie level that would allow
me to lose weight; I don't think just eating healthy foods and eating
at what seemed a moderate level would have done it for me.  Our
calorie needs change as we grow older, and it may be that you're
eating at a maintenance level without realizing it, rather than a
weight loss level.  You might find that calorie counting, at least
temporarily, will help you get on a losing path.

Anyway, good luck, whatever you decide to do!

Actually, It's easier :)
I lost about a 100lbs, and since summer I've put on some muscle and the
muscle pushed out the remaining fat ... Taking off these last 15lbs is
harder then those 100 I lost last year ... I'm less motivated :)

I agree that the last few pounds are often the hardest.  I'm at the very top
of the weight range for my height/age but would like to lose another 10
pounds.  I've found we need to change our reason (motivation) for losing as
we get into our weight goal range.  My original goal was to improve my
health, etc.  My doctor says my health is excellent and doesn't feel it's
critical to lose any additional weight.  We both agree lowering the body fat
percentage would be beneficial.  I personally feel losing the weight would
make it easier to obtain some of my biking goals.  I plan on doing a 100
mile ride in July and a 70 mile ride in September.  Being 10 pounds lighter
would probably make it a little easier and more comfortable on the bike.

Annie,
It's just too cool !!! I'm so excited for you!
I was once 269 + but that was OVER 20 years ago !! Went BACK to 213 for
a while but no further. That was from meds.
IT FEELS so good to be going down.
I'm at 193.5 now and it takes too long to get to the lower numbers .
Keep going lower!! You are doing soooo well.

glo
