Hey all-
I am not even catholic but I like the theory of giving up something for
Lent-minus the big Mardi Gras blowout of course ;-)
But the thing is....seems like I have given up every thing anyhow??
Most everyone I know is giving up sweets or soda---- looking for some
ideas..... What do 'Dieters' give up for Lent???

How about giving up some more of the weight that I don't want anyway.
While some individuals think that it is necessary to give up something
that you desire, my belief is that it is better to give up something
(negative) that you don't want and in doing so you are making a
positive difference in your life.

Just for clarification, for liturgical Western Christians, Mardi Gras
(aka Carnival or "farewell to meat") is the day before the beginning
of Lent. For me, the Lenten season is a time for soul-searching,
repentance, and reflection. This article,
http://www.kencollins.com/hope-23.htm, I think is a good explanation
of what Christians hope to accomplish in observing Lent.
