Hi I haven't posted much but I know I need to get support from
somewhere and I hope this is the right place to do it. I weigh 230
pounds and am 5'5. I haven't been thin since I was married 17 years
ago. Now I am a type 2 diabetic and am scared to death of not making
it to see me kids graduate from high school or their weddings. I have
been in denial really, like oh it won't be that bad I'll have this
chocolate and then diet later, but reality is that later never comes.
I am addicted to sweets and can't stop eating them. I have to start
thinking about my kids and myself and get healthier. I need to lose
weight fast because if I don't I will need to increase my insulin and
also will probably start having problems with my kidneys. What is a
good way to start losing the weight fast. I am the type of person that
I need to see results to motivate me to continue with the diet. I
don't exercise very much at all and I need to start.

To lose weight fast, you need to eat less, that's all. There is no
magic to weight loss. All "diets" only work to the extent that they
help to eat less without suffering too much.
Low carb, perhaps combined with limiting the amount of food, would
likely work for you.
As far as your comment that you are "the type of person that need to
see results to motivate me to continue with the diet" You are
guaranteed to have periods where you do not see results (weight loss),
perhaps for a month in duration. If that would stop your dieting, then
you are guaranteed to fail at dieting.
As far as excuses go, generally speaking, excuses may indeed be great,
but they do not help to lose weight.

Yeah, when I realized that I really needed to lose weight, I got both
frightened and depressed. I know what you are going through. For me, a
subscription to Cooking Light, serious portion control and
walking/hiking/bike riding got me where I need to be. OK, I had to
clear out the pantry (I was pretty brutal at first, then I figured out
what bugged me and what didn't) and I was fortunate to have a very
supportive husband to help me out.
Read a lot, ask questions, clear out the pantry of anything that doesn't
fit your new way of eating.

If you have an addictive reaction then you need some type of
detox program. There are several with Atkins being the best
known. Don't get me wrong, it can be tough for a couple of
weeks. But once you manage to break the cycle of addiction
it becomes easy o avoid sweets and the cravings go away.
You can still turn the cravings back on by reverting to candy
but unless you do that they really do go away and stay away.
> I need to lose weight fast
That's not really what you need, it's a common over reaction.
The problem is the faster you try to lose the more likely to
crash and gain it all back. What you need is the get under
control in such a way that loss starts happening and keeps
happening on a sustainable time scale.
> because if I don't I will need to increase my insulin and
Various low carb plans decrease blood sugar and reduce
need for insulin. Whether that means not increasing your
dosage, managing to get your dosage down to zero, or
anywhere in between no one can say. But insulin needed
is based on dietary carbs more than it is on stored fat.
> What is a good way to start losing the weight fast.
Any fad diet will do that, but you will eventually crash and
regain. The really good ways are the sustainable ones.
There are plenty of different plans that work but for diabetic
folks various low carb systems are the ones to pick among.

Until you get over that and reach the point where you are
doing it for your health, you aren't going to be able to select
a workable plan. You're deliberately setting yourself up for
failure.
> I don't exercise very much at all and I need to start.
Every good plan includes doing exercise. Long walks count
as exercise early on.

Kick the junk, "cold turkey."
Fast food, candy, desserts. Just kick them and never look back.
You'll get lots of other advice about Weight Watchers, Atkins, South
Beach, and you'll probably get confused and try hopping between them
searching for what works for you. But whatever it is, you need to cut
the empty calories out right away.
I went cold turkey January 2005, and haven't had fast food, candy
bars, pie since that day. Don't miss them at all. Don't miss my
giant pants, either.

I am 50 and have lost 60 lbs. on WW. I also am addicted to sweets. If
you can get through a couple of weeks without having sweets, the
cravings do subside (somewhat). Exercise is key. I go to Curves which
is a friendly place where you will find women of all ages and sizes.
Women who just care about their health and who support eachother.
Springtime is here and you have to get moving!! The Walk Away the
Pounds videos from Leslie Sansone are great for beginners too.
