It started out as an extremely rainy day here in St. Louis, though it
cleared by early afternoon. My colleagues opted for staying in this
morning and then going to the art museum, but I decided to do some
winery touring. I drove down along the Missouri River to Augusta, MO
-- visited 3 wineries, had lunch, then took a walk along a little part
of the Katy Trail, a 225-mile bike trail that runs across the state. I
am intentionally splurging some this weekend, since calories have been
low all week, but I didn't really go much overboard today. We'd talked
about going out to a French restaurant tonight, but found it had gone
out of business, so I opted for just eating my usual in-room turkey
burger. Tomorrow we'll probably go out as a group, and if so I'll have
more of a splurge day.
Food:
* 7:30 (hotel breakfast bar): waffle w/ 1 1/2 oz. peanut butter; 6 oz.
orange juice
* 10:15 (driving): small muffin (from the breakfast bar)
* from 11:00 to 1:30, at wineries: 3 oz. wine, around 8 tiny crackers
* 2:00 (brew pub): bratwurst in bun; 3 oz. terra chips (sort of veggie
potato chips); 4 oz. wine
* 7:30 (hotel room): turkey burger on whole wheat hamburger bun w/ 3
slices f/f cheese, dill pickle slices, & catsup

This is the same section of the Katy Trail the granddaughters and I rode a
couple years ago. We stopped at the Augusta Brewing Company for lunch in
their outside terrace. It was a great view of the Missouri River, the food
was good and it was certainly a welcome from the 98F weather that day :)

Cool! I thought of you when I was out there -- thought I recalled you
mentioning the Katy Trail. It wasn't quite eating-outside weather, but
I could see that the view from the terrace was great. (I parked down
by the trail and walked up the hill in front.) And the trail looks
like a great place for biking. I enjoyed my little walk -- north to
the sign for the Klondike trail and then back.
