Excercising at Home?

Do any of you all work out at home instead of going to a gym? I feel
like I never get my money's worth out of my gym membership because by
the time I leave work for the day, I always just want to basically go
straight home and stay there :)  If you do, do you like working out at
home more? I feel that it would be good for me because then I could
squeeze working out in in the mornings or something - because while I
may not be able to motivate to go to a gym, I think I could motivate to
go do something in my living room.

My coworker told me about a program she just joined called PUSH - it's
a DVD service, kind of like Netflix where every month they send you a
customized DVD work out in the mail, with cardio and personal trainer
sessions. She says you can pick your skill level and add all kinds of
options in. It sounds kind of cool and something like that is certainly
cheaper than my gym membership that I never use. I don't know! I think
I might just sign up and check it out, see what it's like. Has anybody
used this system before or know anything about?

it looks like you could save a lot of money just getting workout dvd's
from the library...push is is interesting but everyone starts at the
same place and they can't see your workout to correct form if you're
making mistakes

thanks so much for the link!

one of the things that i find appealing about the program is that
everybody doesn't really start at the same place - you fill out a
survey and tell it where you are in terms of your fitness level (for
example me: not so advanced!) and it sets up your work out accordingly.
my coworker is more advanced than i am, so her start level is different
than mine would be.

i like the idea of Push because, well, my library has a really sparse
selection of dvds, and because i don't want the hassle of having to
remember to return/renew it - i like the fact that it would be just
sent to my house, and it wouldn't be the exact same dvd that everyone
else is using, either. i think i am going to sign up and try it out -
i'll tell you guys how it goes once i get it!

I exercise at home using the Body by Jake Cardio Cruiser.  I like the
machine very much and it is a total workout.  My husband uses it too.
My only complaint is that after 6 months of wear, the band (for
tension) broke.  However, I called the 800 number and they are shipping
me one for free immediately.  I paid $55 a month for a gym membership
for years, but seldom used it.  I use this every other day, and walk on
the in-between days.  Of course, sometimes I just sit and stare at it.
Perfect, I'm not.

I was a very active Curves member, but like someone else said, I like
to go home quickly in the afternoon.  First thing in the morning works
best for me.  I like working out in my pajamas best.

I used to use the gym in my buildign until I realized that I was just
spending too much money on it -and wasing it. i did the math once,
based on how much i was paying for hour for how infrequently I was
going and it was crazy. I'd way rather do something else!

I did the gym (LA Fitness) for about 2 weeks. No helpful assistance after
day one! Now I just walk! Walk and walk and walk.  Outdoors, state
parkland forest, multiuse trail, hill and dale, fresh air and shade,
after breakfast.

I've recently started to observe and investigate marked hiking trails and
other sights and don't keep such a demanding non-stop pace as I used to
do. I don't stopwatch myself anymore. A stop and smell the roses (pollen)
thing.

I do both, in my house and at the gym.  Over time I have purchased equipment
like a treadmill and elliptical, but not the weightlifting equipment I use
at the gym.

I prefer to do yoga and pilates at home via DVD though I would go to a class
if I could find a decent instructor.

There are a lot of helpful resources on the web for exercises, plus I always
clip articles and such from fitness magazines. Over time I've accumulated a
lot of different exercises and filed them by muscle group so I can craft an
entire workout using bands, the exercise ball, dumbells, or bodyweight.

It's an individual choice.  I've tried home workouts, mornings at the
gym, lunch at the gym and after work at the gym.  For me, lunch has been
the easiest to remain faithful too.  Morning gains were very limited,
evenings workouts often got skipped especially if I stopped home first
and home workouts were put off so many times with distractions that they
eventually didn't happen.

Try them all and see which works best for you.  Just don't spend too
much cash on any of them until you're sure it's the best option for you.

This is really a personal choice.  I find the gym atmosphere
motivating and invigorating, and the vast choice of equipment keeps
things interesting.  At home workouts for me (really mostly just motel
room workouts when I'm traveling) are more a boring necessity, by
comparison.  And I'm now really enjoying the yoga classes at the gym.
But some people don't have this response to a gym atmosphere, don't
care that much about the variety of equipment, and would rather work
out at home.  Whatever you'll stick with is what you should do.

See, I'm kind of the other way. I find the gym kind of, well  this is
embarrassing, but intimidating and depressing. I go because I feel like
I have to go but I don't like it much. Therefore, I think it's time to
find something else - because this won't work if Im miserable or
feeling inferior, or quite frankly, simply too tired to go there.

But, mostly, I like working out at home because I can really just fit
it in when I have time - whether its in the morning or when I get home
from work or if I'm travelling or something, I can take it with me. And
lately, I've been working longer hours a lot, so that's kind of
crucial. That's part of why this Push program is appealing to me, I
think, more than like renting a video from the store - my coworker is
on her second disc now (you get one monthly) and it changes every
month, as you get stronger (if you, like me, don't excercise much) or
want to focus on a specific area. So that way I won't get bored,
because they send you a new one every month, and I get to pick the area
I want to focus on, and music and even my own "trainer" - and they have
Bob Harper from The Biggest Loser! I loved him. ;) She's pretty much
convinced me to at least try it out - so if anybody out there uses this
program, tell me we'll compare notes! And I'll keep y'all posted on how
I like it.

I do both.  I ride my bike outside when possible but I also go to the
gym and do spin classes and use their elliptical machine.

Ah!  I would feel the same way.  I hit the gym BEFORE work ;-)

Well, once the alarm goes off, the dogs are up and once they are up, I
had better get a move on or DH will not be a happy camper...
