Greetings all,
I've been reading this group for a while, and decided to post my
questions.
I am a 48 yr old male, and am trying to lose a little weight. I am not
obese or anything, but could stand to lose around 20lbs.
My current weight is 157lbs. I have weighed the same for about 20
years, no fluctuations at all. It just seems that no matter what I do,
I can't lose any weight.
I know I should excercise more, but I am looking for dietary help.
I've never tried a strict regimented diet plan. Most seem kind of wacky
to me.
I don't think I could ever do the no/low carb diet. It seems very
unhealthy to me,
I read books and men's health magazines, but I am overwhelmed and
confused about all the information out there.
For instance, butter or margarine, canola or olive oil, red meat or no
red meat, eggs or no eggs, sugar or no sugar, dairy or no dairy,
etc??????
O course, I love all the things that are bad for you. I don't want to
have to give up anything entirely. I want to have an occasional
Martini, or a scoop of ice-cream.
I suppose that a good diet plan(or really, an overall eating plan)
would revolve around eating things in moderation.
That's really where I am confused.
I do eat a variety of foods, and will willingly eat low-fat foods,
fruits, vegetables, salads, etc.
I have been taking my lunch with me to work, too. I'm trying to cut out
fast food.
I just need help on putting it alll together.
That said, can anyone offer any suggesions?
Thanks in advance!

You didn't mention your height but assuming you're around 5'8 or taller
that weight is right in the ball park. Losing 20 pounds would be a mistake.
If you think you need to lose weight because you can pinch an inch here
and there then you might want to consider resistance training. Muscle
in the right places and burning fat in the troublesome areas is probably
what you're looking for.

Yes, I immagine that is what I'm looking to do, but how?
I am sort or "heavy around the middle".
Any suggestions?
Oh, and I have to be careful about what exercise I do because of some
back problems.

You might want to take a look at this link regarding exercise for those with
back problems:
