Doug's Week 55 report - down 0.4 lb for the week

Doug Lerner - 23 Jun 2006 01:53 GMT
At least my weight dropped a bit this week - down 0.4 lb, for a total to
date of down 82.3 lb. This still is no net change for 3 weeks now, but I'm
not worried. I just continue to diet, exercise and stick with it.

Looking back over my records, I see I had something similar happen between
12/2 and 12/23 last year (I actually gained 0.4 lb over those 3 weeks), and
then my weight loss just picked up again. It's nice to have a weekly record
to remind me of things like this so I don't panic. And a weight loss is,
after all, a weight loss.

Also, call me crazy, but I decided to add a supplement as an experiment. I'm
not changing my diet at all. But "apple polyphenols" are a big thing now in
Japan, so I bought a month's supply and am curious to see if my metabolism
really does increase or not. They seem harmless enough at any rate. I'll
report on results (if any) over the next month. I started taking them on
Tuesday.

Also, I've been doing more walking rather than exercise bicycling. When I
was in St. Louis I really enjoyed the walks around Lafayette Park and found
that time seems to pass more quickly when doing brisk walking than it does
on the exercise bike. So I've gotten into a routine where I walk to the
supermarket by first going all the way in the opposite direction along the
Kanda River to Inokashira  Dori and then back to the supermarket. This takes
me about a half-hour instead of the usual 3 minutes, and I feel like I've
gotten my heart moving, and it helps clear my thoughts. It's nice to find an
exercise I actually *like* doing.

This past week, my average daily calories came to 1609 calories/day. This is
a bit higher than average. In fact it is about 200 calories/day more than I
ate last week when I didn't lose anything at all. Since I lost 0.4 lb this
week this means my CPP (calories per pound per day needed to maintain
weight) was 9.5, which is an improvement over the last 3 weeks.

My "rolling 4 week average" dropped to just 0.4 lb/week though.

The latest stats:

* Week 55 / Day 385
* This week's loss: 0.2 kg = 0.4 lb
* Weight (kg): 125.0 -> 87.6 (minus 37.4 kg)
* Weight (lb): 275.0 -> 192.7 (minus 82.3 lb)
* BMI: 41.3 -> 28.9
* Percent body mass lost: 29.9%
* Percent complete to goal: 81%

Hi Doug,

You have the perfect attitude for success: just keep plugging away at it and
don't worry about the little bumps along the way. Though I don't post a lot,
I do enjoy reading your updates.

You've done really great so far and are a real inspiration to many others.

Hi Eddie,

I'm feeling wonderful (thanks for asking!)!

Just spent the last two days doing some pretty heavy gardening. In the past
I would have been positively whipped, plus sore, stiff and achy for days
afterward. And that's assuming that I would have even attempted to do what
I've been doing today.

Now, my only complaint is a little sunburn. Physically I feel great; no
recovery period necessary. Astonishing! Amazing what losing weight and
getting in better shape will do for you. ;-)

Your body your science experiment.  Not crazy.

They do make sense.  "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"
after all.  They might not be magic but they should be at least
somewhat beneficial.

Call me dense...  Are they supposed to increase your metabolism?
