I like the beginning of a weight loss program...it's often easy to see
an immediate response on the scale, which is a good motivator to
continue. Intellectually, I know it's almost all -- if not all -- water
weight, but it's still encouraging, somehow. As of this morning, I've
lost just over 6 pounds total since I began and 2.6 pounds for the
week. (I just started tracking my weight again on Fitday.)
When I started, just a few weeks ago, I didn't think I could do it,
even though I'd had success before, because all my interim little
attempts at losing weight or even stopping the slow creep of weight had
failed. It's just funny, because the main difference seems to be that
now I've slipped back into the Nike "Just Do It" mindset I had last
time, when I was successful, and it seems to be working.
I'm thinking one of the most powerful influences in weight loss is the
mind...

That's great! Any loss is better than no loss. :o)

That's all it takes - determination! What I found helps me stay on track is
not to have things in the house I may "pig out" on such as cheese and nuts
of all kinds. I wont even have nuts in the house for the holidays this
year.

Easier said than done if you have a family and household to live with. Why
make the entire family sacrifice if one person is trying to diet?
I have a slender, growning teen and a healthy, slim husband. Neither need
to lose weight and love their treats. DS just made a batch of brownies
this evening. The aroma is calling, but I'm trying not to give in.

I'm so lucky to not like chocolate all that much.

The difference between "should do"
and "must do" is huge. When weight
loss (I prefer to call it "fat loss"
or "getting in shape") becomes a "must
do" results follow and it doesn't seem
so difficult. When it's a "should do"
it never gets off the ground.
When someone thinks about losing weight
the terms they use are useful in determining
whether they will be successful or whether
they are just thinking wishfully. Should
do items are positive wishful thinking and
are doomed to fail until they become must
do items. Recognizing that would save a
lot of frustration, false starts and yo-yo
dieting consequences.
