My mom always told me that when you eat lentils, you must combine them with a starch to create a "complete protein." I have read this in other places too, such as several websites I found before posting this question to the group.

I have some DaVinci syrups in my pantry, which seem rather nice. They are also quite expensive. A friend told me to check out Toriani SF syrups, which she buys cheaply (3.99/750ml bottle) at Smart N Final. Both brands are made with Splenda.
