Hello and help!21 May 2004 01:45 GMT14
Hi from an off-and-on lurker, long-standing Usenet veteran.
I'm a 46 yo nurse, compulsive eater, one-time bulimic (a bout with Ipecac
cured me of that!).  Yo-yo dieter of many years.
I had an epiphany in a trying room mirror a year ago--it was actually my
Any suggestions for dealing with sleepiness/lack of concentration20 May 2004 14:00 GMT6
Due to my son not sleeping well and also due to waking up at 5am, I
have not slept enough for the last few days. As a result I am sleepy
and cannot concentrate well. I urgently need to correct a certain
problem at work that requires me to remember several things at once,
Muzzling fat people.20 May 2004 13:03 GMT8
Seems like a damn silly idea, but if you have no self control, I guess
this might work.

Consumer Reports & Low Carb Foods19 May 2004 23:06 GMT20
The latest issue of Consumer Reports has an interesting article about
low carb comfort foods.
According to Consumer Reports there are many new low carb comfort food
products like ice creams, cookies, cakes, etc.
Ping Chris - Salmon Burgers19 May 2004 20:36 GMT4
Guess who went to Trader Joe's as she was departing the People's Republic
of Massachusetts?<g>
Do you just grill them?  Thaw first?  What else?  TIA
They gave me flowers for free!  We need TJ's in Maine - Bangor would be
18 weeks19 May 2004 20:18 GMT18
It's now eighteen weeks into my diet and I have another loss, albeit small.
Only 1.7 pound loss for the week but still a loss!  I'm switching from
calorie counting to Weight Watchers points, still eating the same things but
counting them in a different way.
I hired a personal trainer19 May 2004 17:39 GMT10
I had an interesting experience of hiring an actual real-life
power-lifting trainer to come and help me with some form problems with
my bench, deadlift and squat.
She immediately solved all my deadlift problems.  It turns out I was
low carb confusion19 May 2004 15:40 GMT2
I am counting calories, and within the fitday program I track all the
other items automatically. I have read varying reports as to how many
carb grams per day is considered low carb. I am curious, what is the
threshold of carb grams that most of you consider low carb?
The plan is coming together..19 May 2004 14:32 GMT24
Exercise:  I stopped at the local Bally facilities Friday and will be
changing gyms next week.  I took a tour of the facilities and met with a
couple of the trainers.  The trainers were both young but seemed very
knowledgeable and helpful.  Both were interested in what *I* wanted to
New summer gym program19 May 2004 11:04 GMT8
Now that I'm done doing weightlifting competitions for a while, I'm
going to shift gears a tad in my gym program.  Basically, I want to
devote a little more of my focus to cardio for the next several
months.  We hope to find an Olympic lifting meet or two this summer,

fitday and supplements?18 May 2004 23:44 GMT3
I'm using fitday religiously and I need some guidance. I use the free
online version as it's in my price point right now, but I can't figure
out how to plug in supplements. When I check my nutrition goals, I
know that it's not giving me the full picture since I take 6-8 fish
Successful bariatric surgery18 May 2004 23:27 GMT15
I had to go thru hell for this surgery.  First, my insurance company
refused to cover it because I didn't meet the minimum weight guidelines ( >
100 lbs over)  I spent weeks trying to gain 40 lbs so I would make the cut.
Then, I couldn't find a psych consult which would be covered ...
Grapefruit diet update18 May 2004 20:43 GMT3
I've been drinking 3 - 4 glasses daily before meals for 3 months now,
and have lost a total of 4 pounds.  It's no magic bullet.  Now I'm
going to try to cut calories back a bit (300) and see if I can get
closer to my goal (150) - I'm now at 159.  My blood pressure is lower
